It seems she has the confidence to beat a top player, Dementieva. But no-one else! LOL

She definently has Elena's number..... 3 times in one year, all tough matches as well. ;) That is where all her points are coming from.

Elena  and
knee now hamstring :(

At least it can't possibly keep happening
close to 25% of her pts have come due to wins over Elena.

next yr she won't draw her and go back to challengers, so Elena will be safe i hope ;)

The evening session started with Elena Bovina taking out the next-to-last Canadian, Jana Nejedly, 6-1 6-4, leaving only Maureen Drake in the second round. That left the big question: Could Elena Dementieva finally beat Angelika Roesch after two straight losses?

She couldn't. Whatever sort of voodoo hold Roesch has on Dementieva, it works. If she came from Transylvania, we might suggest vampirism. It's that spooky. Roesch has five main draw WTA wins this year, and three of them are against Dementieva. The matches are generally close (at Berlin, Roesch won 6-4 1-6 7-5; at New Haven, 6-3 1-6 6-3; now, at Quebec City, 7-6 6-7 6-4), but Roesch wins them all. Just the quality points from those wins represent a fifth of Roesch's total points; if she didn't have Dementieva to feed off, she wouldn't be Top 100. As it is, she came in at #82, and will be moving up to about #70.

And the bottom half of the Quebec City draw has now lost both its top seeds.

In fact,I think Elena can beat Roesch this time. However, she just could not do it.:(
It is a disaster but I believe Elena will do it better in the future and I hope Elena makes her come back next year!

Honestly, though. This is funny. Bad for Eena, but funny still.

I don't see how anyone can make the injury excuse for Elena considering she's also lost to her twice before this year.

Dementieva's chances of qualifying for LA continue to fade....

It's very weird.

Roesch has got Elena's number at the moment, but I'd rather Elena lose and look at her game and fully heal.

Knees to a hamstring? I really don't want Elena injured, I want her to be healthy and find that dynamic game back which took her to the Top 10.

I hope Elena wakes up and makes the changes necessary to challenge the top ten again.

I saw their match live at New Haven and Roesch was overpowering Elena. She played great tennis against Elena i think the score there was like 6-3 1-6 6-3 and Roesch won on the 7th match poibnt or so.

Comical indeed. Especially since the remaining two victories came against lowly Nathalie Vierin (a wildcard) in Palermo, and even lowlier Kelly Liggan (a qualifier) in Quebec.

Angelika is largely building her career on Dementieva. I'd like to have seen Elena's reaction when she was presented with the draw.

Spooky.

Why should her reaction be anything but glee? Roesch is ranked 80, almost entirely based on Challengers. Elena should really be ashamed of her performances against her, and, actually, of her entire year barring the opening three majors.

Roesch played a fantastic match...I was there and yes Elena's injury was real and she was uncomfortable....Roesch really has the game to beat Dementieva because she is a power hitter and she likes this. It was the match of the tourney so far!!!!!
