The scoreline is a big shocker but Peyton could not keep the ball in the court in the rallies from what I could see (just saw last few points). Big win for Eva!

First upset in RG. And again, people who take any stakes in Rome meaning much for RG forgot Paolini and Andreeva had instant exits there last year and had been in RG's final and semifinal each.

Peyton's level was awful today - just spraying errors and her 2nd serve was weaker than even Eva's for some bizarre reason. The section up to R4 fully open for Zheng now, although we'll see if she can use that.

Stearns was gash in the first set but the second set was a lot of Lys really going after the ball and going for winners. For most of the last game Stearns was just rolling the ball in hoping for errors.

Pressure of being seeded for the first time and expected to do well I guess?

 

I am sure that played a big part. So many new seeds flop like that. Also she peaked in Rome and did not find the level for Paris - many players struggle with timing their form. We saw this with Dalma Galfi in qualies and it happens every slam to someone. Karolina Pliskova did this for years, it seemed, particularly on grass.

Of course she peaked against Naomi and got killed by Eva. No complaints though as Eva is sunshine in Paris.

Terrible result. Stearns flopping here is such a disappointment especially going out to Lys who has such a lightweight game. She played terrible winning only 3 games. What a joke!!!

higher ranking and seeding are treacherous cuz how else do you explain having your best week on tour, a ton of momentum, followed up by this performance? I reckon Stearns would have fared better without the expectations.
