Re: RG 2QR: V. Grammatikopoulo d. H. Watson 7:5 6:7 7:6

 PAME VALENTINI, What a win. Valentini is a notorious choker and didn't expect to win the 3rd after she served for the match in the 2nd. She saved 2MPs and hit a lot of winners, at times she looked like Giorgi out there. One game away from her 1st slam MD. Please do it

What’s happened to Heather Watson?
I always see her sanitary towel commercial where she’s spouting about how strong she is, even when she’s on her period, but she’s not showing it at the moment. JJ would be disgusted.
She’s a lot better than this.

That’s where her game and ranking are at the moment, she was only the top seed in one of them.

I think it's a disappointing loss for Watson, but her not qualifying is also not that surprising. She didn't prepare for RG at all. This is the first time since last year's RG that she has played on clay. She was still in Japan, playing on carpet, last week.

What a surprise Heather Watson was involved in a shit fest...

She just has a terrible terrible mental game and is a bad closer. She plays decent tennis and gets herself into decent score lines then always wilts.
Infamous against Serena at Wimbledon, but I watched her do it live against Brady at AO 2017 and it's just time and time again.

She might have won this match was 3-1 up in the tie-break then went into low risk pushing hoping Grammatikopoulou would gift it to her. But she found the court.

To be honest I'm surprised she beat Schoofs anyway...

What is she doing in Japan playing on carpet this time of year ? Carpet, really ?

That advert is so random... But she does have a good TV voice. She's probably going to get Sue Barker's job once she retires and Sue also retires.

I agree she is a lot better than this..I dunno what it is exactly but the impression I get is that all the fight, consistency and spirit she used to show has completely gone.. It kind of started after losing that big match to Serena at Wimbledon and gradually over time got worse.

This was such a choke-off. I'm honestly shocked Valentini came out of it but good for her! Would love to see her finally get that MD slam appearance. :) She has to get through Lepchenko though who is a bit of a tall order for her. Pame!

Oh Hev. Her game has been so disorganised whenever i've watched her this past year. She never seems to know when to start counterpunching or when to just hit. Misses so much at the net too which is a surprise given her strong doubles play.

Well you know, going out East for the Challengers was logical for Watson, given her terrible run of form and resulting drop in ranking. It enabled her to string a few wins together, and at least get a Challenger title, but it comes at the price of being poorly prepared for clay court play, so I don't find this result surprising.

I still think it's better than losing first round in qualies all the time. Which is what I think she'd have done if she'd stayed in Europe.

Bravo Valentini! It was incredible! Ok, Watson made so many mistakes but it was a great performance. Almost 55 winners mean that it wasn't just choking for both! Maybe it was the first time she fought back so well when she is 0-3 down. Let the first major MD be true!
