Rennae has her critics :) but her heart is in the right place. Good on her. Not sure if she has the profile in Australia to make big change but if her coming out helps someone then thats great.

Hope Lisa is OK with the article

Rennae did not "out" Lisa, but the reporter who wrote the Bulletin article did. Lisa knew the reporter was going to say Rennae and Lisa had been together and she did not ask the reporter not to include her name. She read it, and was ok with it. So I just want people to stop pointing the finger at Rennae.
What a great article!! I remember her match against Donna Faber in 90 when she qualified at Wimbledon. It was so close, 7-5 in the 3rd.

Don't think Rennae is that type to out someone anyway, she's says whats on her mind yes, but it's never personal or vindictive. She always has a reason for speaking out.

Im not too sure about this partnership sounds good in theory but something tells me they just not gona get the results, hope im wrong
I was thinking the same when she partnered with cara Black, who's quick but doesn't have anything off the ground, but volleys OK. Stubbs plays great with someone who can make alot of returns and allows her to cross and dominate the net. It might work out OK if Corrina can play the role that Cara does.

Years ago Rennae had some great results with Nicole Bradtke in fed Cup, because of Nicole's steadiness complimented Rennae's flair. Pity they didn't team more often!

This took some time to find - no post since August 2007
But time to bump it - because at 38 Rennae was great in the final last night. Though her serve was a bit off, her volleying was first rate. Her returns were a little dodgy at the start which had Sam in the firing line, but she soon opened her shoulders.
The Williams had all the weapons, but time and time again, they were out smarted by the Aussies net skills.
Though Rennae dropped serve twice - she'd have to be proud of her performance - including a between the legs shot mid court
Rennae looks so fit as well....

And interesting to see Conchita Martinez in Rennae and Sam's box. Rennae's new partner perhaps? I thought Concita was hooked up with Louise Pleming at one stage??

Stubbsy has a girlfriend, but I can't remember her name. Conchi is just a good mate of hers.
Thanks :)
If she retires I can find an instant employment opportunity - part of Channel 9's commentary team ;)
Rennae obviously enjoys what she's does - I think she will only retire when her body packs it in.

What a brilliant read!
Rennae really has things to say and expresses herself so well. So much better than the cliched stuff we get from most gals on the tour. Pity that she's canned for it a bit. She's so passionate about tennis that she can't help but say what should be said intead of side stepping questions.

Thanks Gee Tee :) Some blasts from the past there - Morton, McDonald, Byrne, Faull.
I know Kate McDonald was Rennae's regular doubles partner early on. They played a match against Graf and Sabatini at a slam (probably AO) in which a few funny things happened on court which led to Rennae and Steffi becoming friends. I haven't heard to whether they keep in contact now.

Dave - Rennae was so vocal in Graf's long FO final against Seles. I wonder if Graf found it a little distracting. Incidently Rennae was warming up for Birmingham on the grass but at Graf's request came back to Paris to cheer her on.

Nice to see that Rennae and Lisa have put the past behind them. I read that Lisa did find Rennae's behaviour on court very off-putting which put a strain on their on and off-court relationship.

I wish Rennae played more with Nicole Bradtke. They had some great Fed Cup results, Rennae's flair with Nicoles consistency. Pity they never teamed up on the tour as the wouldve been a tough team.

Not pointless at all... thanks Uranium.

Love for Rennae to get another slam doubles or mixed before she hangs it up. Not sure if it can happen but she'll never say never.....

That doubles win with Sam was so comprehensive - over in an hour against the current world champions (baring the sisters ofocurse)

"Alicia at one stage in her match yesterday turned to me and said, “Do you think her parents are wondering who Rodi is?” Anastasias parents came in from Moscow to watch their daughter put on a display of guts and tenacity for her adopted country that I am sure they were proud of and as a member of this team for some on and off 18 years, it was one of the truly great comebacks and efforts I have witnessed."

Interesting quote from Alicia and interesting that Rennae posted it. Not sure they should hint that Rodi often doesn't fight in her matches. Both gals have put their fair share of average matches in, over the years.

Veteran Stubbs set to join Dementieva in retirement

October 31, 2010

DOHA: In the emotional moments after world No.9 Elena Dementieva announced her shock retirement from tennis while still entrenched among the world's top 10, Australia's most enduring player, 39-year-old doubles specialist Rennae Stubbs, also privately confirmed her intention to depart the game.

Dementieva will exit immediately, even though she qualified for the year-end WTA championships for a 10th year out of 11. The 29-year-old Russian had nursed her retirement secret throughout her 13th season, which ended with Friday night's 6-4, 6-2 loss to Francesca Schiavone in her 849th tournament match. Dementieva's 576th and last win came against Samantha Stosur in three sets the previous night.

The evergreen Stubbs is also making her championships farewell. The winner of four doubles and two grand slam mixed titles among 60 tournament victories overall, Stubbs intends to return to Melbourne Park in January for one final time as a competitor and then - selection permitting - contest Australia's Fed Cup tie against Italy in Hobart the next week.

''If we win Fed Cup and get to the semis, there's a small possibility that I'd still like to be a part of that journey, having been on the train for so long,'' said Stubbs, whose doubles qualification with partner Lisa Raymond represents her 15th appearance at the year-end tournament. ''But the plan is that Fed Cup will probably be it. ''[Retirement] is 99.99 sure. I don't think it will ever feel totally right, but I'm as certain as I can be. I've always said, 'Once I'm done, I'm done.' I don't want to be one of those players that comes back and decides to play in July. This will definitely be my last championships, that's for sure, and it will be my last Australian Open.''
Hope so - because she deserves to be part of the Fed Cup journey in 2011. The reality is that even if she retires from competition and just plays Fed Cup she'll be more capable than anyone else - there's no automatic choice for the 2nd doubles spot unfortunately.

Rennae was a big part of Steffi's life in the 90's, around for many of her big matches. I remember Rennae coming back from England to lend support for Steffi during her epic Seles match at the FO in the 90's. Ive always wondered if they maintained the friendship. From this pic it looks like the have.
