Note the 566 point gap between #10 and #11. More than the amount between #11 and #18.

What you have from #11 to #22 is mostly a group of tough veteran players. Most of them have beeen deep in some GS or another. They are the players a young player has to learn to beat. Right now, Shaughnessy, Dementieva are trying to learn how to separate themselves from this pack. Tulyaganova is just starting to show the consistent results of a player who'll be top 20 a long time.

You are incorrect about Jen having #1 wrapped up. If Venus runs the table at Paris and Gaz, she's 50/50 to take it. Jen STILL doesn't play the following week, and Venus does.

If Venus makes her commitments for the 2 weeks following this one, and Jen doesn't panic-enter something, this is what she needs for guaranteed #1:

2 Titles and a Quarterfinal
1 Title and 2 Finals

although slightly less might be enough.
Actually, I forgot to count points to defend in the next couple weeks.

Jen 141
Venus 113

So you can put Venus chances a hair higher yet.
Well that's very good news! I knew about the Terazura's points of Venus but I had forgotten about IGA JCap's point too. Which means that if she wins GDF and Antwerp, Venus will be #1. By winning GDF, she'll have something like 4520 points. Antwerp being a tier II, she can gain around 350 points there and overcome JCap right away! Another win at Dubai and buhbye JCap!!!!!:bounce:
bye bye Jennifer:wavey:
How come Amelie Mauresmo is falling so far down the list? She still might win the tourney, right.
Mauresmo is way down there because she is the defending champion in Paris. So at the beginning of this week, she lost all the points gained last year ! But even if she wins, she will stay at #10 because none of the others players were defending any points. They are just gaining this week!

The problem is that at that time last year, Mauresmo started her winning streak (ending right before RG, with 4 titles)! So she's gonna be defending a lot of points from now on. Which means that if she doesn't defend, she 'll be just losing points! I think her position in the top10 is safe though! The gap between #10 and #11 is quite big!
Well in my opinion as long as Venus remains healthy I am happy. I am glad that she is playing but if she doesn't win these tourneys I am still very much happy for her. Becuase she is climbing slowly but surely:) I just don't want to set myself up and get all cocky about Venus chances not just yet.. lol:)
Thanks Volcana
