As the WTA decided to delete points from the last 3-4 weeks of the last season within this week, there are dramatic changes within the top100 ; besides, with Tauziat, Huber ( and Farina ? ) later to be deleted too, there are quite some surprises, especially regarding the important top32 for the seeds at the Australian Open ...

Sandrine is new on no12 or better, if she beats Jenn or not ; all other on pos1-11 are still in the competition ; Seles falls to 10 though, Mauresmo is overtaken by Dokic ( and could well be overtaken by Serena later on ) and Venus takes no3 from Hingis ; those moves are for sure, the rest is speculation right now

13 Farina ( retires ? )
14 Tauziat ( retires )
15 Maleeva
16 Sanchez
17 Dementiewa
18 Coetzer
19 Huber ( retires )
20 Tulyagonaova
21 Schett
22 Montolio
23 Raymond
24 Grande ( due to Henrieta´s and Tami´s downfall )
25 Serna
26 Suarez
27 Bedanova
28 Nagyova ( lost points from Asia )
29 Tanasurgan ( lost points from Asia )
30 Torrens-Valero
31 Schiavone
32 Sugiyama

35 Martinez ( lost points from Advanta and Masters )
36 Likhovtseva ( lost points from Leipzig and Masters )

39 Panova ( lost points from Asia )
41 Majoli ( lost points from Asia )
48 Frazier ( lost points from Quebec and others )
53 Rubin ( lost points from Quebec and others )
74 Kournikova ( lost points from Masters and others )

Therefore, Elena and Conchita are among those who won´t have a seed so far at the Australian Open ; remember the fact that Conchita Martinez f.e. has to defend some points at Gold Coast in the decisive week for the seeds and isn´t assured of winning so much more points compared to last year that she couldn´t be overtaken by others who have nothing to defend in her "back" of the rankings ; Elena f.e. played Hopman Cup 2001 and could well make some points

Majoli, Kournikova, Rubin, Frazier and Pierce are among those who won´t have a top32-seed even if doing extremely well in the first week of 2002

The Aussie will be dangerous enough with the top 10! I mean you figure the following will have a serious shot at the title : Jennifer Capriati, Lindsay Davenport, Venus Williams, Serena Williams, Monica Seles, Martina Hingis, Jelena Dokic, Justine Henin and Kimberly Clijsters. Throw Momo in as a dark horse and this tourney could be brutal.

If Pierce is healthy and even slightly fit when she returns, I would hate to be the seed to get her in their part of the draw at the Australian... considering that she was injured at the end of '96 and got to the finals of the Aussie in '97 while unseeded.

* Testud climbs to no11 if falling to Williams
* Williams climbs to no7 if falling to Davenport

* Clijsters remains no5 if falling to Davenport
* Davenport becomes no1 with 5050 points if winning it all
