Should the players receive ranking points for wins in Fed Cup? And if so, how many points? A fixed number of points (depending on the round) plus bonus points or just bonus points or something else?

I think it would be a great idea and it might even convince more top players to play for their country.

I agree with you Josh...i really do think it is a great idea....

I've always thought they should award bonus points, with these not counting towards your 17 tournament, so they are just a bonus - that comes off after 52 weeks like normal...

that really could entice top players to fed cup!

Ranking points are awarded by the ITF in the junior scene.
Its Category C and points are awarded on Player 1 and Player 2 status.

Qualifying Stages
Player 1 QF-40 SF-60 FINAL-80
Player 2 QF-20 SF-40 FINAL-60

FINALS
PLAYER 1 QF-80 SF-120 FINAL-180
PLAYER 2 QF-60 SF-80 FINAL-120

I'm not sure. It would change the atmosphere and ethos of Fed Cup. The whole point about it is that you're not playing for yourself or your ranking but for your country. Of course lots of top players can't be bothered to and/or don't see it as important. But IMO we don't want/need these players in Fed Cup. Watching Fed Cup knowing that every player there is playing completely for fun and patriotism gives it a great atmosphere.

I don't like the idea in general, since all players don't get to play. To make it fair (and circumvent and possible national federation politics), if they were going to award points, it should be something like a 10% bonus onto a player's ranking points if she makes herself available for Fed Cup duty, and completes the matches she's chosen for. If a player is one of the top 2 singles players on her team, and pulls out of a scheduled live second singles match, she gets no bonus. Players have to show up and play if chosen. And those that aren't chosen get their bonus if they made themselves available. As close as the rankings are at the top, a Fed Cup bonus could decide a few spots. And it would only help the event if all of the top names would show up to play.

It's the same as with the Olympics - only a few players from each country can play. And what about a situation like Jennifers, where she's not able to play because of the national coach? I don't think stuff like that should be able to affect the rankings.
