Radio Tennis.com Announces June Launch

By Tennis Week
05/12/2003

Fans anxiously awaiting The Tennis Channel to arrive on their cable system can tune into tennis next month — on the Internet. Radio Tennis.com has announced the launch of its inaugural web cast for June 14th from the $10,000 USTA Futures event in Sunnyvale, California.

Radio Tennis.com is the live, streaming audio play-by-play of professional tennis from around the world via the Internet. The site's launch plan calls for a minimum of two live web casts per month between June and December. All final matches will then be archived for listeners to enjoy at their convenience.

Radio Tennis.com plans to web cast a wide range of tennis action from around the globe. Listeners can expect to hear everything from early ATP and WTA qualifying round action, college tennis, world junior competition, professional doubles, exhibitions as well as action from the USTA $10,000 Future and $50,000 Challenger circuits.

"Radio Tennis.com is for the tennis fan that understands and enjoys professional tennis," said Tennis Telecom Inc.'s Chief Officer Ken Thomas. "They understand that an exciting, hard-fought and entertaining tennis match can take place just as easily in a late round qualifying match in Thailand, as it can on Centre Court at Wimbledon. Great tennis is taking place somewhere in the world every day and Radio Tennis.com plans to bring these matches to the world tennis community."

That's great news!! Has anyone ever listened to the BBC do play by play? It's great. And you don't have to sit in front of the TV. You can do housework at the same time. :)

So... they can only broadcast the scrubs in qualifying, and challengers? Better than nothing.

They asked me to have my own show, but I'm not so sure. They want me to do a weekly review. One week I'm going to do fast food, one week restaurants, one week the tour's finest women, one week airplane food, one week convenience food.

It's a lot to ask of me. I'd have to stop eating Big Macs for some time in order to do it full justice and you all know I never do things by halves.

Yeah, I have, and it's fantastic! The unbearable tension of a closely-fought match comes right through, because the commentators are so skillful at setting the scene and describing the action in the smallest details so you can picture it exactly. It is a lot more fun than it seems like it should be. I look forward to this! :)
