I have a question
how on earth is it possible that Williams sisters still use SR???
Venus is on tour since Australian Open!
I like her a lot but you know.. it's seems unfair!!!
what's your opinion???

I am honestly disappointed with the WTA Tour that Venus has had a special ranking for over six months. It is not fair to those who expect to be highly seeded, but ended being bumped down a spot or two due to the Williams sisters getting these rankings.

thanks for your comment,i'm afraid nobody is listening to us at all
moreover,i'm highly surprised by the fact that there hasn't been any protests on that matter on behalf of other players

I was just wondering... Let's saw Kournikova wants to make a comeback... will she get a protected ranking, or some kind of deal with WC's?

They have SR for eight tournament not including the grand slams so Venus' is almost up and Serena still has many tournaments

Yeah good question!
of course, the difference is that a lot of players planning their comeback are not ranked at all and sisters were still in the top 20 before their comeback
but i guess their are no rules in WTA system explaining such situations

are there any rules that explain it? there are many good players coming back to action that receive SR only for a couple of tournaments... or maybe i'm wrong?

There have been lots of discussions in the WTA meetings about the SR seedings. It would probably take a while before the new rule comes in, but there is a suggestion to SR situation:a player can use her SR to get into the tournament, but cannot use SR to be seeded. There is a little downside to it, which I guess could be corrected by increasing the number of seeds in the draw.
Let's say Venus is out of Top-10 or is #9 or 10, and she is playing a tournament in San Diego-32 draw. All top-8 players are present, and there are only 8 seedings in the draw(since its a small size draw). Venus could play any of the seeded players as early as in the 1st round. I do not think that the tournament will be too happy with one of the top players eliminated in the 1st round.

Well,it seems that some things are possible only if you are one of Williamses
When Hingis were injured a few years ago she dropped from number 1 in the world and when she came back she was never seeded 1st in tournaments

moreover,if Venus and Serena are as good as we all know they are, they don't need any help by WTA,they can easily collect some points and climb the ranking

you say that the tournament won't be happy with a situation like this, and how about Maria Sharapova? number 8 in the world and Wimbledon winner,in a situation like this she wouldn't be seeded just because of Williamses
unfortunately, some people believe it is more important for them to have sponsors and organizers 'happy' not taking other players into account

Of course they are! Venus and Serena have changed the WTA as anybody else. They are the biggest advertisement for women's tennis, like Lance for cycling, Tiger for golf, Kobe od Shaq for basketball. Even if they aren't doing well these days, I'm not surprised organisators of the tournaments still are giving them special seedings. It's all about money - the more Sister's matches, the more spectators, ecpeccialy in USA.

No, I don't think so, because she didn't change the game so much. Williams Sisters began a new era of tennis, and Seles... Yes, she's unbelievable champion, but Williases are something more (it's all just my point of view, of course).

From my understanding, the Williams Sisters will get protected ranking until they start winning the tourneys on a regular basis and not need them anymore. This may happen during the hardcourt season, and it may not. They could get the SR for the next few years. All the WTA knows that they are getting the SR and know that it's only a matter of time before the Sisters start their domination again.

It has nothing to do with the rules that all people who have brains know about the protective rankings.

They get those Special Rankings because That's what the Tournament Wants. It's not even about Tennis. It's about the Williams.

I know it sounds unfair, you'll get used to it.
