Christ, that's horrific. A circa 250 player is 4th seed for a pretty strong WTA event. Hell of a difference in ranking between Zhang and Perez?

Why is it so weak?

I had forgot about RG quals, but there still managed to be a 24 player Q draw at Strasbourg the week before RG last year. Obviously the current climate will have had a big impact, and the condensed calendar with USO-Rome-RG all in quick succession, but I thought they'd at least be able to round up 12 players either from those inside the top 120, or a few more 250-300. Could have even had a few dubs specialists like Dabrowski.

Sanders was the last direct entrant at #265, looks like Bondarenko used her PR to enter. Parry and Bayerlova got in via WCs, so the likes of Dabrowski wouldn't have made the cut.

Not in a very rare 8 person, 1 round draw, no, but could have in a 12-16 person, 2 round draw.

Perez or Parry presumably getting 18 points for one win, when it wouldn't have looked out of place in an unseeded, normal strength W25 draw for 5 points. Parry was actually in that Portugal W15 draw the other week with a couple of top 200 players like Bucsa, so she could have had a tougher match then for 1 point.

McHale plays M. Georges (FRA) in qualies
This is a replay of a match with possibly the greatest rally I've ever seen. It was at the French Open in 2016, buried away on one of the back courts. Myrtille was at the camera end, disappeared from view on nearly every shot and kept making these unbelievable returns which Christina had to dive all over the court to get back. Of course it was never going to get the Shot of the Day, but it was far superior to whatever did get that accolade.

Myrtille won that meeting, but it looks highly unlikely that she will repeat. I hadn't realised that it was being streamed live, so I'm watching it now.
