Good 6-1 6-4 win for young Qinwen today in Woking (UK) W25 against the veteran Greta Arn, who is ranked in the 350's. I mentioned on Xinyu's thread the other day that, although Qinwen is younger so maybe less pressure to get results and boost her ranking, these type of events will do her so much more good longer terms than Xinyu beating a bunch of 500/600 odd players and picking up easy points, even if she went out in R1 or R2.

'News' next match is against the 3rd seed Raina who is around 200, and if she wins that, she may play 6th Georges in the QF who is ranked circa 250. A lot of tennis to play, and she will do well to make the SFs here, but I really do think it'll do her more good.

She's down to play Chiswick next week - in Qs at the moment, but that potential SE will be on the line if she does extremely well.

Actually, I've just seen that Qinwen has been playing solely in Europe since April, obviously to tie in RG and Wimbledon jrs, and the USA before that. Does anyone know where she is generally based?

I believe IMG Bradenton FL, but maybe it was only temporary stay late 18 and into 19.

Thanks. Gutting 3 hour 20 minute defeat for Qinwen yesterday against Ozgen, who must have been affected by it, as she lost 2 and 3 to Greta Arn today, who Qinwen beat 4 and 1 last week. So she's qualified for both events, won a main draw match, but then went down in 3 sets to seeded players in and around the top 200. Not too bad, and I'd imagine she'll have learned a lot, particularly that long match yesterday.

The last I saw if Qinwen was a close tough loss in three sets at Miami Open to a name player I now forget. Slow transition to the WTA but she will get there. Chinese usually experience a slow transition to their pro breakouts. Valencia Xu into the semis of the San Diego 16s nationals this week. She is a Chinese American with a bright future.
