PYW Doubles Madrid
Welcome to Madrid, Spain! This is one of the four largest non-major events of the year with mandatory entry for all players. Another exciting feature of this tournament is the debut of a new surface - blue clay! The top seeds, American veterans Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond, have undoubtedly been the strongest, most consistent doubles team this year but a few recent losses mean that they will need to be on their guards. Other strong seeds in the top half include Russians Maria Kirilenko and Nadia Petrova, the fourth seeds, the new Kazakh team of Yaroslava Shvedova and Galina Voskoboeva, the seventh seeds, and Slovene Polona Hercog and American Vania King, an unseeded team. Another unseeded team to watch is the Argentine tandem of Gisela Dulko and Paola Suárez who have formed this year and steadily made their way up the rankings. Finally, the second seeds, Czech Květa Peschke and Slovene Katarina Srebotnik, have had some lackluster results this year but their past history will make them a tough team to beat. Two Czech teams in their half, namely third seeds Andrea Hlaváčková and Lucie Hradecká and eighth seeds Iveta Benešová and Barbora Záhlavová-Strýcová. Clearly the depth this week is very strong, so this a week not to miss!
