PYW Doubles Madrid

Welcome to Madrid, Spain! This is the third Premier Mandatory event of the year, and the only on red clay so many of the top doubles stars are ready to go this week and will be eager to take their chances to win this prestigious tournament. Last year the Williams sisters prevailed, however they can't return this year, which leaves a tough position to fill for those in the draw this year. The top seeds are Gisela Dulko and Flavia Pennetta, who have certainly proven their capabilities, however they will have their hands full with teams such as Daniela Hantuchova and Agnieszka Radwanska or Victoria Azarenka and Maria Kirilenko, who play in the first round in the top quarter of the draw. Arguably the most successful team to date in PYW doubles, Vania King and Yaroslava Shvedova but they will have their hands full with seventh-seeded Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Meghann Shaughnessy, who have also been a standout team on the PYW doubles circuit this year. One team to watch in the bottom half is Sania Mirza and Elena Vesnina, but another interesting one will be Casey Dellacqua, who just returned from injury, partnering her recently-"retired" compatriot Rennae Stubbs, who decided to return to action this week. With these teams and so many more, competition will be fierce in Madrid! Vote now as the Mutua Madrid Open begins!!!
