President Halonen sends her greetings
21.07.2003
The President of the Republic, Tarja Halonen, welcomes everybody to this year's tournament.

I welcome you to Finland in connection with Nordea Nordic Light Open, which is the largest tennis tournament ever in our country.

Nordea Nordic Light Open is to be considered a big breakthrough for women’s tennis in the Nordic countries, and more attention will be paid to women’s sports thanks to the tournament. Hopefully more of young girls will become interested in sports in general and especially tennis.

Tennis is the world’s leading professional sport for women and now it has come to Finland and the Nordic countries to stay. The competition is also a good example of Nordic cooperation as the project supports and improves women’s tennis in all Nordic countries. We wish Sweden good luck with the arrangements for 2004.

I would like to send my best regards to all players and officials and wish them the best of luck.

Tarja Halonen
President of the Republic

Do you know if Mika Hakkinen, Jirki Jarvi Letho, Keke Rosberg are going to the tournament?

LOL No idea. Sorry.

I am 99% sure that they aren't there. But I saw Teemu Selanne there last year with his black Volvo.
