They gave it to Kvitova (2010), Oudin (2009), Szavay (2007)

That's why I was surprised they gave it to Begu instead of Pervak (who made Wimbledon 4R) last year.

Player of the year: Serena has the edge as of right now with her Wimbledon title and Gold Medal but this title can still be decided with the US Open and the Year End Championship.

Most Improved: Kerber for sure. She has won the most matches this year and has made career bests at the other slams.

Comeback: Hard to say. Maybe Venus. Maybe Shvedova.

Newcomer might go to Sloane imo and it'll probably be a definite lock if she beats Ivanovic (big if). This being her slam results over the past year (3R, 4R, 3R, 3R with good chance of QF so far) and she made two WTA Semifinals this year. If not Sloane then Timea for winning her first WTA title earlier this year.

Begu literally made NO sense . McFail beat the number one and made some splash at the US Open (beat Bartoli) and Pervak had won a title, made a final, and Wimby fourth round. Begu had two finals . And she hasn't done a thing this year .

Because no one stepped up last year.:lol: This year Masha and Vika are pretty consistent (better than what Petra achieved last year), so Rena's chances definitely become slimmer compared to when Petra won.:shrug:
Anyways, if Rena manages to win USO and YEC, she'll probably win (but still that RG performance )

Unless Vika or Serena wins US open, Maria is definitely winning player of the year. The wta is wet from her winning Roland Garros. We all know Maria is the face of wta so they will definitely promote her as much as possible.

If Serena ends the year as Wimbledon, U.S Open, and Olympic Champion nobody will care that she lost 1st round at the French Open. Kvitova went out 1st round of the U.S Open last year and swept all the awards, and she didnt win as many big tournaments as Serena would have.

Player of the Year : Depends on whoever wins the US Open really, each contender has an advantage over the other two players - vika and her HC season dominance and no.1 ranking, maria with her career slam completion and serenka with her olympic gold medal. whoever wins the USO wins this award

Most improved player : my pick is Kerber, her improvement within the span of a year is simply amazing and deserves to be rewarded duly for that

Newcomer of the Year : two horse fight IMO between Robson and Stephens...I know Robson isn't that "new" to be exact but she is age-wise and finally showing promise at the USO

Comeback player of the Year : my first pick is Shvedova but they may give it to Venus too

Fan Favorite : Radwanska meh probably Clijsters/Sharapova

Doubles : Serenka and Vinas
