Welcome to FILDERSTADT

If you so far are not familiar with Predict-the-SCORE...

It is a game in which you predict the score (hence the name) of matches on the WTA Tour each week.

You must to predict the scores of matches in this breakdown:

1st Round: 7matches
2nd Round: 5 matches
Quaterfinals: 3 matches
Semifinals: 2 matches
Final: 1 match

If a player withdraws from the tournament at any time, or retires during her match the pick is not counted, and you are given a "replacement pick" which you may use at ANY TIME during the tournament in addition to your other picks.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How the Scoring works:

*Copyright SpikeyAidanm - April 9th, 2004 -*

Here is an example:

Several players decide to predict the Myskina vs Petrova Quarter-Final Match

ACTUAL MATCH RESULT: Myskina def Petrova 6-7, 6-1, 6-1

Let’s say the following are predictions from a range of players:

  • 1. Myskina to beat Petrova 6-7, 6-1, 6-1

Dead accurate and correct score, 35 points.

  • 2. Myskina to beat Petrova 6-1, 6-7, 6-1

You predicted the number of sets correctly and you got all three set scorelines correct, just in reverse the actual, this still gets you 25 points.

  • 3. Myskina to beat Petrova 6-1, 3-6, 6-2

You predicted the number of sets correctly, and you predicted one of the set scorelines correct (6-1) and it was correct because Myskina won that set 6-1 like she actually did.
A prediction like this will reward you 20 points. (note if you predicted two of the sets correct but not the third on in a three match you will be given a bonus 3 points here)

  • 4. Myskina to beat Petrova 7-6, 3-6, 6-4

You predicted the number of sets correctly, and although 7-6 was in the actual scoreline, in the real match Petrova won the set 7-6 not Myskina, as you have predicted.
So any situations like this when you have predicted the correct winner and correct number of sets but no correct actual scorelines, you still gain 15 points.

  • 5. Myskina to beat Petrova 6-1, 6-2

You predicted the correct winner but not the correct number of sets but you did correctly predict at least one scoreline that was correct (6-1 in Myskina’s favour), so you get 12 points.
(note if you picked Myskina to beat Petrova 6-1, 6-1, you still got at least one set correct, so that’s worth 12 too).

  • 6. Myskina to beat Petrova 6-3, 7-6

You predicted the correct winner, but neither of the scorelines were correct (note that 7-6 was in the real scoreline but in Petrova’s favour not Myskina’s as you have predicted). A prediction like this will reward you with 10 points.

  • 7. Petrova to beat Myskina 7-5, 1-6, 7-6

0 points for any incorrect “match” winner prediction.

Pre-Tournament Breakdown

The favourites:

World #1 - *Yoav* -- the clear numner 1 in the world has been struggling as of late with a new strategy, will he be able to pull it off, or will he struggle enough for the rest of the field to catch him?

World #2 - silverwhite -- a similar situation as *Yoav*, a very strong competitor, but has seemed vunerable lately with some parratic picks, definitely also not a lock for this event.

World #3 - jrm -- jrm was also a victim in Hasselt of some faulty picks, all of the top 3 look very beatable coming in to Filderstadt, the most important Tier II of the year.

World #5 - alwayshingis -- he has been creeping his way up the rankings to #5 with strong performances, and had a rare tournament victory last week in Hasselt, it will be interesting to see if he can keep up the momentum

World #7 - HectorMagnus -- Arguably the hottest player on tour lately, has had quite a few very solid finishes in a row, I would be very surprised if he was not in the title mix here.

The Newcomers:

The tour has blossomed in recent weeks with a very talented group of newcomers, all with the ability to win a title, these players are the reason we saw silverwhite and jrm finish a surprising 9th and 10th last week.

Zhao -- following up two strong tournament in a row, Zhao looks to really start putting the pressure on the top. And remember, Zhao is always correct ;).

setpoint -- had an improbable tournament victory in his very first tournament on tour, and was unable to follow it up with a strong performance the next week, but he has shown he has the ability, will he be able to convert?

masha -- masha was a player who seemed like he may compete for strong finishes, but never be a dominating force on tour, but that changed with a huge final appearance last week. Watch out for him.

Rossana Fan -- with just a few tournaments under Rossana Fan's belt, the look of a competitor is already present. With some great finishes already, Rossana Fan is definitely one to watch out for, and is my upset pick for the week.

Darkhorse:

~Kirilenko#1Fan~ -- there is some mystery surrounding this player, but he came onto the scene last week and has shown the potential for a strong finish...we'll see if it will happen this week.

HAVE A GREAT WEEK EVERYONE, FILDERSTADT IS ALWAYS FUN! :D
