So, recently seeing that Kanepi vulturing thread, made me wonder if it was Radwanska or Wozniacki. Obviously some criticized, but it's not even compared to what would happen if it was a less liked one. Also the fact she's not that relevant and is not aiming for top 10 or something like that

Which players do you think get a pass here?

Pliskova and the broken chair comes to my mind. Probably because she's normally so cold.

Martic also gets a pass for her extremely boring game.

I think Mertens was quite a vulture a while ago and doesn't get a lot of stick for her abysmal record against top players.

Wtf lol. 1st of all...Comparing Kanepi to Wozniacki. Apples and oranges.

Boring game of Martic? That is your own opinion and it differs from mine.

Most people are on Pliskova's side about that terrible line call that cost her the match. Beating that chair was awesome and I'm glad she did it.

She gets a decent amount of disdain because she's a brat, but there are a LOT of posters who think/thought Ostapenko is/was going to be a huge, multi-slam winning star, which overlooks that until the last week of this year she had won exactly one title (an Int'l) outside the French Open.

Now she's won a massive 2 titles (both Int'ls) outside the French Open. She simply isn't reliable enough to be counted on to win any match, at any time. She makes Kvitova look like Chris Evert in her consistency by comparison.

My favorite current stat/fact: Ostapenko has never won a singles match, at any level (juniors, qualifying, main draw) at the French Open EXCEPT the year she won the title. She lost to Abanda in the first round of juniors in 2014, lost in the first round of qualifying in 2015, and lost in the main draw first round in 2016, 2018, and 2019.

Definition of a fluke.

Wozniacki in her peak years got a pass. She was peak vulture with boring game and outside TF she was considered as a future of tennis.

I don't think Martic (or any other player) gets a "pass" for what her game looks like. Some people like it, some people don't -- that's it. There's nothing that universally defines a game as "boring". Pretty much any relevant player has a fair share of fans and detractors in this forum (there are few exceptions like Muchova, who seems to be well-regarded by pretty much every poster here). Martic just may not have as many detractors as you would expect.

Maybe the reason is because those two have been more successful throughout their careers + Martic's game looks nothing like Wozniacki's or Svitolina's.

What do you mean "get a pass"? These are among the best players in the world. Do you only want to see the best 3 basketball players? A player ranked 20 is fantastic, and its extremely hard to get a top 20 ranking

She really wasn't much of a vulture in 2010-2011, which were undoubtedly her peak years, and the first seasons she was Top 10 from start to finish. And she absolutely did NOT get a pass during those years. She had a lot more fans on the board than she does now, but she had a huge bloc of detractors.

She played Amelia Island, which was an Int'l but had been downgraded from a Tier II during the system change, so was a quite historical event, and the Danish Open, which was her home event, but pretty much everything else was Premier-or-higher.

There was a stretch (IW through IW 2010-2011) when she won 5 out of the 10 PM/P5 events and reached the final of a 6th, plus the tour finals. Her slam results weren't what you'd want from a #1, but they were better than, from modern times, Svitolina's results (including this season) or Pliskova's results.

Essentially, at her peak, she was winning bigger titles with greater frequency than Svitolina or Pliskova, and doing better at the slams.

That era (plus Safina's time at #1, courtesy of Serena's comment about 'she won Madrid and Rome') was when we started seeing people refer to winning Tier I events as vulturing, which it simply cannot be (if you win a mandatory event, it's not vulturing, plain and simple), and now we see posters refer to some slam wins as vultured.

That is only your unique weird opinion, please stop posting it all the time whole year long.
It is just way too much for someone who supposedly doesn't care about said player and is not a hater. <img src="https://www.tennisforum.com/images/smilies/tape.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Taped" class="inlineimg" /> <img src="https://www.tennisforum.com/images/smilies/help.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Help" class="inlineimg" />
Yeah. His posts regarding Petra are way more boring than her game.

Yeah, I thought about that. Obviously being successful attracs more detractors. Which makes me imagine how would be if Putintseva were winning slams lol.

Guys, I created a very broad thread that happens to mention Martic as a mere detail, after what, more than 6 months since the last time I talked about her. Grow up, it's not as if I'm posting about her all the time or anything. Stop being so defensive. I'm not a hater or anything.
