Pilot Pen Announces Record Television Coverage

The Pilot Pen tournament will enjoy a greater television presence this year. The New Haven, Connecticut tournament announced its largest domestic television package in tournament history as ESPN, ESPN2 and CBS Sports will broadcast a total of 13 and a half hours of live and tape-delayed coverage during the week, including prime-time coverage of quarterfinal and semifinal matches.

CBS Sports will air the Pilot Pen final live at 1 p.m. Eastern time on Saturday, August 23rd.

The Pilot Pen, which will be held August 15-23rd at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale, will feature a live prime-time broadcast of the semifinal match on Friday, August 22nd (8-9:30 p.m.) on ESPN, as well as live broadcasts on ESPN2 on Thursday, August 21st and Friday, August 22nd (1-3 p.m.). ESPN2 will also air six hours of tape-delayed action on Wednesday, August 20th and Thursday, August 21st.

The tournament has boasted 121⁄2 hours of coverage in each of the past two years.

"The improvement not only in the total number of hours, but also in the time slots dedicated to Pilot Pen Tennis are a ringing endorsement for the popularity of our event and of women's tennis," said Mike Davies, Pilot Pen Tennis president. "It's great to think that fans all across the country will be gaining exposure to the Pilot Pen and to New Haven."

The 2003 event currently features seven of the world's top 20 players, including American Lindsay Davenport, Frenchwoman Amelie Mauresmo, Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova, Russians Anastasia Myskina and Elena Dementieva, Greek Eleni Daniilidou and Spaniard Conchita Martinez.
