I wouldn't expect her to beat Pierce. At wimby she only reached that round due to an easy draw and Daniella self destructing.

I'd be really surprised if she could emulate 4th round of a slam again.

I would give Shinobu a decent chance to beat her. Shinobu beat Maggie in str8 sets in the first round which I honestly didn't expect would happen. I would think it could go either way. Mary is still not in the form she was in a few years ago. Shinobu is playing possibly the best tennis in her career. It's gonna be a very competitive entertaining match. By the way it's just stupid to call her fourth round appearance at Wimby a fluke. Her win over Daniela is legit by any means. Who gives a fuck about Daniela self-destructing? She's just not so good as you think.

Mary won't intimidate Shinobu by her power, but possibly by her stature in the game and her level of play. If Shinobu can play consistently and without fear she will prevail. If Mary is moving well and striking the ball cleanly, she will prevail. I think Shinobu has a chance to win this match if she plays intelligently. For Mary to win, she'll need to be patient, keep expecting to play shots from awkward positions, and keep expecting the ball to come back. Shinobu's current form suggests that she's one of those players who won't just go away. Shinobu has the longer odds but has a chance. Mary is the favourite to take this match out.

1. I didn't say her win over Daniella wasn't legit. I was simply stating that it wasn't a great performance. I was at the match and it was bloody awful.. nearly as bad as the ASZ v Myskina match yesterday.

I think Shinobu-san will win. She has had a great year (71% win ratio compared to 57% over her whole career) and has already propelled herself to the dizzy heights of 42th in the rankings (from 97nd at the end of last year). Pierce-san may be a talented competitor, but the road ends here for her.

I think Asagoe is the favorite, Pierce doesn't move well and Asagoe is good at scrambing to stay in the rallies.

Asagoe has nothing to hurt Mary. She can run fast but Mary's playing well enough to hit 2-3 winners within a point consistently, so I expect her to win.
