Pick-A-Winner (PAW) #308 - ROLAND GARROS - 2007
It would very much be appreciated it if you guys could take the time to check what this poll is all about.
Please read about the options below before you VOTE!
Pick-A-Winner has been around for a very long time, and has seen an increasing rise in popularity for most of that time.
Recently, however, some problems have arisen concerning the workload for the managers: it has just become too much. The clearest example of what this can lead to was Berlin recently.
Because we would like keep the game in existence for a little while longer, some of the managers feel something needs to be done to ensure that PAW will run smoothly again. What we would like to do is try and make things a little easier for the individual managers. In order to accomplish this, we have come up with a couple of options, which mostle revolve around the goal of cutting the amount of players per tournament. Below you can find the options we came up with, including a short explanation.
1.Cut-offs & ITFs.
A limited amount of players for each tournament. Cut-offs will be made based on the Entry Ranking. How many players get into each tournament will be considered at a later moment. But for example: 64 players in top tier, 32 in II-IV. Those players who don't get into the WTA Tournaments will play ITFs.
The biggest issue here will be finding enough managers (3 to 4 a week for tournaments between 32 and 64 players).
2.Cut-offs & limited tournaments.
A limited amount of players for each tournament. Cut-offs will be made based on the Entry Ranking. Added to that, every player will be limited to a certain amount of tournaments, and will therefore not be playing week in, week out. How this will be done exactly is up for discussion.
With this option, the question remains if it won't be too complicated to keep track of who played which, and how many tournaments.
Cut-offs will be made based on the Entry Ranking. And that's it. Not everyone will be allowed to play each week. For example 2 64-player tournaments will mean 128 players will be allowed to play in a week. Exceptions will be made for Slams, Miami, IW....
4.Cut-offs after 2 days of play.
Cut-offs will be made in-tournament. Only the top players move on after the first 2 days (for example: 64 players remain after 2 days).
Downside on this is it destroys PAW-strategy (picking big early, or late) and gives players who start on wednesday (for example) no chance.
I would like you all to note that the result of this poll will not be binding for the future of PAW. We would just like to get a general image of what you guys think about it. Ultimately it will be in the hands of the managers to decide what's going to happen. However, I can already say now that a huge factor in that decision will be how many help we will get [HINT HINT] - and by help I mean managing tournaments which have between 32 and 64 players (64 is the number we're shooting for right now for a max)
