Pelham 60K Final : Veronica MIROSHNICHENKO beats [1] Renata ZARAZÚA 7-6 (5), 6-2

I have never heard of this Veronica and she's 25 and had never won any ITF titles except two 10Ks in 2016 so this run feels completely out of nowhere. Kind of similar to her compatriot STARODUBTSEVA who's also been doing well on the American ITF circuit this spring. Apparently Veronica also played American college tennis :

Does anyone know more about her ? She now moves up to 401 in the live rankings, which is exactly 200 spots better than her previous career high.

And ZARAZÚA had a solid run to the final, so she finally seems to play well against someone besides Genie !

I immediately saw maraschino (as in the cherry) when I saw her name 🍒
And speaking of winning a 60k out of nowhere (and then pretty much disappearing afterwards) what happened to Anzhelika Isaeva?

Miroshnichenko is actually from Russia and represents Russia on the ITF/WTA, but on her Instagram she only has Ukrainian flags in her bio. Looking at her college profile, looks like her mothers surname is Miroshnichenko and her fathers surname is Kuznetsov, so could be half Russian-Ukrainian. Wonder if we'll see her try to switch nationalities soon.

Yeah, she looks almost a cert to take either Ukrainian or (more likely) US citizenship as it is clear she is settled in the US and her sympathies as far as the war goes are definitely on the side of the Ukrainians. As you say she is also for sure half Russian and half Ukrainian and the Ukrainian half is where her heart is with regards to the war. She clearly went to university in the US and like a lot of players that have gone the university route started playing professionally once graduated. Have to say with tennis careers often lasting these days well into a player's 30s this is increasingly looking like an approach that makes a lot of sense.
