Kerber finally snaps her 5 match losing streak! When she went down a double break in the second set, I thought the match would be just like her previous ones where she lost after the first set :SNE: Fortunately that didn't happen and she came roaring back to win in straights. Gibbs  Nice fight!

QF against Keys should be interesting. Normally I would favour Angie in this, but her form is totally suspect as of late. And predicting a match with Keys involved is always futile. :eek:h:

At least she finally ended that awful losing streak but her confidence is still so low and her tennis so vulnerable.

Of course she needed to play someone ranked #137 to finally get a win. Expected more from Gibbs here though... but I’ll give her a break for coming back from the health scare, she did qualify and win a round in a Premier. Keep getting better, Nicole

I don't play tennis so this question probably sounds super-amateurish but why does Kerber's shots look so slow and heavy? Watching other matches the players shots will look as if it's going through the court fast then they play Kerber and look like they're hitting a much heavier ball. Is this from Kerber putting a lot of spin on it?

Angie's ball is usually pretty flat. I think the camera angles in Osaka might have something to do with it, but I haven't seen this match yet so I can't comment for sure.

In which universe is Gibbs slumping?

Since coming back from her illness she reached an ITF- final, beat Osuigwe, won a set against Halep and qualified/won a round in Osaka. This is her normal level.

Is it so hard for you to admit that Kerber is just the better player of these too, even when she's in a big slump?

He/She is a notorious Kerber/Sakkari hater. Whenever they win a match, it's because their opponents played like shit, even if that opponent is Rosalyn Small. Don't try to find logic in this. :help:

Most borrrrrring match so far. Had to turn it off.
Kerber's shots are slower than Errani's.

Good win for Kerber today. Really happy she came back in the second set after being down and won!

Hope she can pull off a win against Keys on Friday.
