Another win over Garbine for Su Wei. :worship:

Still wasn’t serving the best but stuck to her guns and came up with well-placed winners at the right times. It was important in this match for her to hold steady and just stick with it, keep pushing her opponent’s buttons until she imploded.

This match isn’t going to do any favours for Muguruza’s dwindling confidence on the court. She still hasn’t won a match since the French Open. :help:

Re: Osaka R1: HSIEH def. MUGURUZA 3-6 7-6 6-1, saves MP

What an implosion after that match point.

This one is a heart breaker.

As soon as Hsieh saved a MP and the match went to a decider it was so NID that Mugu would totally collapse in the third set. Really disappointing to see how far Mugu has fallen :(

Hsieh didn't play her best, but she played well when she needed to the most and that got her the win.

not 3 threads... lol

Im really worried about Mugu... wanted to think that maybe Sam, maybe injuries... but she is the only reason. Is not her game, cause she has it and she has proven it even if haters don't want to admit it... but something is off with her head and it doesn't seam to turn right any time soon

Heartbreaking for Mugu, after that TB, she never recovered. Her confidence needs a shot doesn't she have a good pigeon to draw in Wuhan?
Well done for SW, never panicked.

Hsieh playing at 70% is still good enough to breadstick Mugu :haha::haha:

Hmm, her last win was... checks notes... RG  And that was against Svitolina who had injury troubles (who otherwise crushed Mugu this year 6-2 6-1 in Dubai) Not really a good look for her right now :( Not sure if any match is safe for her these days :SNE:

The good news is her last 3 losses have been in three sets. The issue is in all of these she did well the first set and then flopped after that.

Hsieh's serve picked up at the end of the second set and that was pretty decisive as Muguruza has been fragile the whole match.

Not picking up that match point basically decided the match. The tie break was really a reminiscent of the AO tie break as well.

As someone else mentioned recently, in other years, SW would have lost these. Still not on best forms, but getting a few wins.
Tricky against Dirtens next.

At least Mug isn't losing easily, she’s putting in decent effort and getting close to the win.

Although , yeah... Not a great third set by any means.

It sounds like an average Garbiñe match ? puts a half-decent fight while still playing her lightweight tennis, panics when she has to close it out, waves the white flag in the TB and doesn't even bother to compete in the third set.

I noticed at the USO how bad her conditioning was, but she's become a part time player, so that is to be expected. Where will she go from here I don't know, but it's payback time for all that complacency. She's spent too much time in denial and doing nothing while her tennis fell apart piece by piece. She's hardly competitive anymore, her ranking has dropped and first rounds are going to be brutal from now on, especially for someone who's made such a bad habit of losing and collapsing so many matches, skipping and withdrawing from tournaments and avoiding competition while her form and confidence gradually evaporated and only a swagger that fell apart like a house of cards was left. Why didn't she play last week when she's only played, and lost, 3 matches since RG ? I doubt she's going to get that confidence win she's craving, and maybe she has to become even more irrelevant (in ranking terms) and see herself like really looking into the void to start to try to turn things around, which means retooling her trash FH, playing a full schedule with as many small tournaments as she can, and those will be already hard enough, make a habit of winning matches again instead of losing all of them, and getting physically stronger. But too many wasted thoughts for someone who probably doesn't even care that much anyway :SNE:

When I checked Garbiñe was 6-3 4-2... that's unbelievable.

I saw the TB and the 3rd set.
Muguruza was frustrated. She didn't know what to do with the cheap, slow pace frying pan balls. She looked miserable.
To her credit, she tried a few things. She tried to go to the net. She tried slices. She tried attacking. She tried moving Hsieh around. Nothing worked. It was bad.
I hate Hsieh's game. Just annoying.
