Naomi :)

Great win for her, I liked how she dealt with Putintseva's dropshots and slices today - much better than she did in Birmingham and Wimbledon, though different surfaces.

Osaka was hitting her angled BHs very well today, and her FH too - as usual - but then she got a little tight towards the end of both sets, and Yulia as usual fought back in both sets as she always will.

Putin once again played well, got into Osaka's head A LOT - and really nearly pulled off a comeback from 1-5 in the 1st and 2-5 in the 2nd. Too bad about her injury at the 2nd to last point, I hope it isn't a season-ending injury and it's just a mild knock because she really couldn't serve in that last point.

Naomi's back later for her SF against Mertens.

That interview :hysteric: Osaka trying to learn Japanese from the interviewer :hysteric:

The better player won ... finally. With no pressure of playing in Wuhan next week, Noami should take it all here.

Yeesus is Lawd, she won against her short-woman syndrome, vertically challenged nemesis. Her 2nd serves and BH saved the match. I want to cry on how she responded to those slices against her BH AND Poots ankle injury at MP. Horrible, get better Poots, we need your feistiness. Dad, what can I say? Now back to rugby and cleaning while waiting for Mertens, too bad the WTA TV didn’t show her match.

That interview :help: So awkward. I wonder if Naomi is still actively practicing her Japanese. Serena does better interviews in French than Naomi does in Japanese.

Osaka in Osaka. Good win for her, but they need to meet up again outside of Osaka. If Naomi can beat her again, then Putin is solved.

Crazy MP. That ankle roll looked bad.

In her last match, the on-court interview was all Japanese. WTF and all.

It's amazing that the mighty mite Poots at 5'3 could win even one game against the 5'11 giant Osaka.
Now that Cibulkova has retired(?), Poots, Paolini and little Lauren Davis are carrying the banner for the micro mite crowd.
Another good year for Poots. 4th year in a row top 50, now at #36.

What did you guys make of the OCC by Naomi's dad?
I was kinda surprised. He was calm and knew exactly what to say to get her focussed. He's stepping up.
I wasn't surprised. After all he brought her to the Game of Tennis.

Unfortunately here at TF we have some very odd Posters at times who claim Naomi can't win without Bajin and they're also acting like her Dad doesn't know anything about Tennis.

The interview had more highlights than the match itself. Osaka corrected the interviewer kind of curtly, so then the woman starts asking Naomi questions in Japanese knowing full well she can't speak it. Good stuff.

A dad should know exactly what to say to his daughter to get her focused. I mean, he has known her all her life. So I wasn't surprised, but I was pleased. He wasn't perfect, she clearly didn't agree with some technical things he said, but the central message and moral support were well received and very helpful.
