After learning that she only won 14 singles titles from this thread, I just looked up Capriati's career stats on wiki and wow I am so surprised. I never knew she had such a weird career arc. It looks like the most unique timeline I have ever seen of a tennis player. So she made 3 Slam SFs, 9 Slam QFs between age of 14-18 and then it took her nearly 7 years to make next slam QF ???

Thanks Tony, I’ve added Stafford. She won one title according to Wiki, Taiwan in 1992 (sadly I was too young to follow WTA then). I only remember Wimbledon 1992 and even then, that’s a very vague memory.
Got another one for you Helen Kelesi 2

You must be one of the newer tennis fans. Her story is well documented, and your question will quickly be answered.

Plus shoplifting, I seem to remember. She really went off the rails and it took time for her comeback to swing into action. I was really shocked she ever became a top player again or won slams because when she first came back, she was ranked around 100 and seemed to be making little impression.

I have been following tennis since around 2004-2005..so never really watched Capriati play much. I was aware that she was a multi slam winner and was a teenage sensation (plus some drug issues) but never bothered looking into her career in detail.

Yea, theres a lot to that story. She steadily improved thru 2000 but still came out of nowhere to win Australia in 2001. Hingis, after beating both Serena and Venus, was completely taken unawares in that final.
