:) :) :) :) :) . . . .with tremendous skill and incredible strength, one barrier of racism was dismissed when Miss Althea Gibson becomes the first Black athlete to win the US National Tennis Championships.

Althea Gibson was one of the greatest female tennis players of all time. Unfortunately, she had to make a living, and in the 1950s, if you didn't have money, your only option was to turn professional and go on a rigorous tour to support yourself, and thus you were barred from playing in the majors. Her tour wasn't successful, and she ended up trying her hand (moderately successfully) at golf.

It's a shame she couldn't stay amateur, because I think she would have taken quite a few majors away from Maria Bueno and Margaret Smith (Court) in the early 1960s. She had a huge serve and volley game! And this lady gave back to the game for years after she left it!

everyone should love each other, no more racism plz:)
i think black girls in tennis are great, yes,
there are certain black players i dont like;)
but there are also some white players i dont like,
i dont base my judgement on race discrimination,
and no one should, thank you Dr. Martin Luther King:D
