So, these are poundings administered by the Americans then:
Kim d. Lindsay, Stanford final
Justine d. Venus, Berlin R16
Justine d. Jennifer, Wimbledon SF
Venus d. Justine in three sets, Wimbledon F
Lindsay d. Kim in a third set TB, Masters SF
I'm American and love my country, but as far as classy, brilliant tennis players are concerned, Justine and Kim are the ones for me!!!
Hurley you left out a few matches:
US q Venus d Kim
Us 4th round Serena d Henin
Chase q Serena d Henin
Pilot Pen q Venus d Henin
Canada q Seles d Henin
French final Jen d Kim
IW final Serena d Kim
Australia 4th round Lindsay d Kim
Australia 4th round Seles d Henin
Henin did beat Runin in Canberra so there's one.
Wimbledon q Davenport d Kim
I'm sorry jrj but your conclusion is too narrow minded. It will be probably the last time that you can say that Kim and Justine can't measure with the US players, next time they will be ready to win the key matches too, the experience will give them a boost.
first I said from the start nothing against Justine or Kim it's about the Belgium ahole captain who talked trash about us!
By rule of the Fed Cup the event should have been in the US. The next time you anti-American posters are cheering for Monica as your "hero" I'll remind you how you called her and the US players cowards.
Jrj, you said the Rose Bowl is "rightfully yours"...
As Belgium went to Spain and won all its matches, it is rightfully ours!
I had predicted a few months ago, in some other tennis forums that the Williams' sisters wouldn't play this Fed Cup as it was on clay... They seem to have some other things to care about instead of playing for their country (September the 11th or not...)
Adding the fact that Lindsay is hurt, and that Monica prefers resting and playing some little tournament in her native town instead of playing for her country, what do we have?
Well, there's Jennifer Capriati. Oh but she's not really in good shape in this end of year... Oh but BTW isn't she ill? That's why she lost to Testud in Munich, remember?
So what do we have? Meghann Shaugnessy? Not a kind of player who could really cause troubles on clay...
What about Lisa Raymond? She's #1 in doubles, but that's it. And as for Shaugnessy, Raymond couldn't beat our belgian girls this year...
So, our belgian captain concluded that the US tennis federation didn't WANT TO send a team who wouldn't have had a lot of chances of catching the title...
Is that so unconceivable?
