September 22, 2003 -- LOS ANGELES - The man who was with the sister of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams when she was shot dead last week has been released from jail, where he had been held on a parole violation.
Rolland Wormley, 28, was sprung at 4:30 a.m. Saturday, six days after the fatal shooting of Yetunde Price, 31, a law-enforcement source said.
Wormley told investigators that he was driving Price home from a barbecue around midnight when he accidentally took a wrong turn and wound up in a violent, drug-infested neighborhood in the suburb of Compton.
The pair then got into an argument with some people on the street, who opened fire, authorities said. An assault rifle and shell casings were found at the scene.
A woman who identified herself as one of Wormley's sisters but refused to give her name, told The Post last night that her brother "finally got out [of jail]. He should have never been there."
Wormley, 28, who was on parole for receiving stolen goods, was arrested the night of the shooting on suspicion of violating his parole.
Exactly how he violated parole isn't clear.
Wormley's sister said her brother is "grieving real bad."
"Yetunde was his fiancée," she said.
Price, the mother of three, owned a hair salon and served as a personal assistant to Serena and Venus.
Price lived with her cousin in a single-family home in Corona, about 40 miles east of the shooting scene.
Prosecutors have charged Aaron Michael Hammer, a 24-year-old reputed wannabe gang member, with Price's murder. He is being held without bail.
Police are looking for two or three other suspects.
