I've always thought it to be a tie between the Big 3 and Bjorn Borg... but it's undoubtedly Novak.
His decision to avoid longer rallies post third set, hit through his forehand, extract errors from Thiem's fh side, and serve way better was a master class. Didn't get broken once in the last two sets.
Down 15-30, 4-3 up in the fifth on his own serve, he hits a superb wide serve into Thiem's deuce court, catching the Austrian off guard, and extracting an error.
His ability to hang with Thiem and win the longer rallies was compromised post 2nd set, so adjusting his game, managing his fitness and going after that forehand, as I said he should, won him this match (granted, Thiem's level dipped a lot).
What a smart tennis man.
