Noppawan dumps world No. 97 for main draw berth

PATTAYA Thailand, February 05, 2007
Thailand 15-year-old Noppawan Lertcheewakarn(WTA-895) made her main draw debut on WTA pro-circuit when she shocked top seed Melinda Czink (WTA-97) of Hungary in the qualifying final round, to secure her place to the main draw of the $US170,000 Pattaya Women's Open at the Dusit Resort Hotel, Pattaya, Thailand earlier today.

In all her winning way, Noppawan eliminated three good players along the way - defeated world No. 228 Shikha Uberoi of India 1-6, 7-6(3), 6-2 in the first round; upset fifth-seeded Chin-Wei Chan(WTA-159) of Chinese Taipei 6-1, 6-4 in the second round; knocked out top seed Melinda Czink (WTA-97) of Hungary 6-4, 6-2 in the final qualifying round.

" I played nothing to lose and did not feel any pressure playing her (Czink). I knew she serves well and hit the balls hard. My game plan was to attack her first and forced her into errors. I attacked her backhand side and did not try to change the ball direction. I went for my shot when I have opportunities. I hit the balls deep to avoid giving her any short balls. I'm happy I played well today " said Noppawan who was playing in her second WTA tournament after the 2006 Bangkok Open.

" She(Nakamura) is my idol. We have a similar style of hitting with two-handed on both sides. I watched her play in Australian Open. I'm looking forward to playing her. " added the Thai world junior No. 48 after she knew a first-round match-up against the Japanese world No. 56 Aiko Nakamura.

Nudnida Luangnam(WTA-323) could not get past the final round. She wasted three set points in the first set before falling 7-6(0), 6-1 to third-seeded Tzipora Obziler (WTA-139) of Israel.
In the main draw first round, wildcard entrant Montinee Tangphong(WTA-332) went down to Anastassia Rodionova(WTA-89) in straight sets 7-5, 7-6(4).

Noppawan, Nudnida in final qualifying round

PATTAYA Thailand, February 04, 2007
Wildcard entrant Noppawan Lertcheewakarn(WTA-895) and Nudnida Luangnam(WTA-323) secured their place into the final qualifying round after they delivered the surprise second round upset in the $US170,000 Pattaya Women's Open at the Dusit Resort Hotel, Pattaya, Thailand earlier today.

15-year-old Noppawan, continued her giant-killing by upsetting fifth-seeded Chin-Wei Chan(WTA-159) of Chinese Taipei in straight set 6-1, 6-4 in a match lasting 57 minutes. Ranked 895th in the world, Noppawan, will take on top seed Melinda Czink (WTA-97) of Hungary for a place to the main draw.

" I'm so happy to reach the final round because my first goal is just winning atleast the first round. I knew that she (Chan) has a very good backhand (compared to forehand) when I saw her practicing. So I tried to attack her forehand side. " said the Thai who defeated world top 200 for the first time of her career.

" I used to practice with her (Czink) last year. She is a lefty and hit the ball hard from both side. Tomorrow I just want to play my game. I will be playing nothing to lose. Please come to support me tomorrow. " added the Thai junior No. 1, who has been selected to join the Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand's rising stars programme since April 2006.

Nudnida Luangnam(WTA-323) joined Noppawan's success by knocking out world No. 189 and eight-seeded Carly Gullickson of USA in a nerve-wracking contest 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 that spanned two hours and 23 minutes. The Thai talented girl from Sukhothai will play the final round against third-seeded Tzipora Obziler (WTA-139) of Israel.

Nungnadda defeats Noppawan to win Jakarta title

JAKARTA Indonesia, May 06, 2007
Thailand 17-year-old Nungnadda Wannasuk(WTA-674) secured her third career ITF Women's Circuit title after defeating younger compatriot and sixth-seeded Noppawan Lertcheewakarn (WTA-684) in the women's singles final of the US$10,000 Mitra Kencana Open at the Kemayoran Tennis Center in Jakarta Indonesia earlier today.

Following her solid win against 27-year-old former SEA Games gold medalist Wukirash Sawondari in the semis, Nungnadda, rallied from a set down before defeating 15-year-old Noppawan in three sets battle 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, to capture her third career titles in senior level after capturing two ITF(US$10,000) titles in Nigeria and in Pune, India last year.

" It's always a good feeling to win a tournament. In the first set, she (Noppawan) played really well and I made too many unforced errors. In the second, I went for my shots whenever I have good opportunities after having long rallies. She did not move that well in the third set I think because of she got tired from yesterday long semifinal match. I was happy to win today. " said Nungnadda who is sponsored by Boon Rawd Brewery Company Limited.

Thailand rising stars Noppawan Lertcheewakarn(ITF-33) became the first Thai junior to win a ITF GB1 title after defeating fifth-seeded Zi-Jun Yang(ITF-104) in the girl's singles final of the Asia/Oceania Closed ITF Junior Championship at the DLTA Tennis Complex in New Delhi earlier today.

Top seed Noppawan Lertcheewakarn, who plays with two-handed both sides, extended her winning streak going to 10-0 as she beat Zi-Jun Yang(ITF-104) in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 in the final contest. Noppawan, who won five matches in a row to capture her third ITF junior title in G2 Bangkok last weekend and has now won five rounds here, improved to 2-1 lifetime against the Hong Kong fifth-seeded.

It was Noppawan's first-career GB1 title after finishing the girls' singles runner-up at the Asia/Oceania Junior Closed in Taiwan earlier this year. The teenager from Chiangmai, who turns 16-year-old this month, has already won three singles ITF junior titles. The first title came at G3 Rajshahi, Bangladesh in 2006, won the second at G2 Jakarta, Indonesia in 2006 and captured the third trophy in G2 Bangkok 2007. In addition, the Chiangmai 15-year-old led Thailand team to win maiden title at the 2007 Junior Fed Cup Asia/Oceania Qualifying and finished the fourth place in the World Group Final this year.

Noppawan, who is now working with former National coach, Robert Davis, awarded another +180 computor ranking points for this week GB1 champion, together with the one hundred(+100) she has already earned as the winner of last week's Bangkok G2. She will break into Top-20 (around 16) in world junior ranking for the first time by next week.

Noppawan wins maiden G1 title in Sarawak

SARAWAK Malaysia March 23, 2008

Thailand No.1 junior Noppawan Lertcheewakarn captured her first-career ITF junior Grade 1 title after defeating No.16 seed Zsofia Susanyi of Hungary in girl's singles final of the 11th Sarawak Chief Minister's Cup World ITF Junior Circuit, an ITF junior Grade 1, at Sarawak Lawn Tennis Centre in Malaysia earlier today.

The Thai star, who dropped only 11 games in four matches going into the final, rallied from a 3-5 down in the final set before overwhelming 16-year-old world No.111 from Hungary in three gruelling sets 6-0, 6-7(5), 7-5 in the final contest.

It was Noppawan's first-career G1 title after bagging GB1 in Asia/Oceania Junior Closed in India last year. With 150 ITF juniors points for singles champion and 50 points for doubles semifinalists, the Chiangmai 16-year-old would be jumping into the top-10 for the first time when the combined rankings are announced next week.

Following Sarawak, Noppawan will be heading to Manila for Grade 1 Mitsubishi-Lancer International Junior Championships where the projected top five seeds are: Thailand's Noppawan Lertcheewakarn(ITF-18), Elena Chernyakova of Russia(ITF-22), Zi-Jun Yang of Hong Kong(ITF-35), Reka-Luca Jani of Hungari(ITF-40), and Misaki Doi of Japan(ITF-61).
