New Zealanders in ITF events (post-Covid-19 shutdown)

Original post from 11 September, moved from old thread:

New Zealanders have entered the following ITF tournaments this month:

14 September W80 Cagnes-sur-Mer
Erin Routliffe (currently 26th alternate for singles)
Katherine Westbury (33rd alternate)

I expect Routliffe to play doubles here if she and Naomi Broady do not make the final field for WTA Rome, although I don't know who her partner would be. Even if they win Istanbul, which would push both players to just outside the top 100, they would still almost certainly need different (higher-ranked) partners to get into the French Open, given that the joint-ranking cutoff is normally around 150-160 because of singles specialists vulturing in using their singles rankings.

21 September W25 Prerov; W15 Porto
Routliffe and Westbury both entered Prerov, and Westbury entered Porto as well, but they have withdrawn from both this week.

28 September W25 Porto
Paige Hourigan (currently 56th alternate)(now 50th)
Erin Routliffe (179th alternate)(now 168th)

They may play doubles together, as they have done successfully for New Zealand in Fed Cup.

28 September W15 Monastir
Katherine Westbury (currently 72nd alternate)(now 62nd)

Erin Routliffe has made the singles qualifying draw in Cagnes-sur-Mer with one spot to spare behind her, and will play third seed Varvara Lepchenko in the last match of the day on Sunday 13 September. Katherine Westbury missed the cut by two places.
Although she represents Switzerland, New Zealand-born Lulu Sun is playing in the W15 in Monastir this coming week. She's second in the qualifying list in the original acceptances, so will almost certainly make the main draw directly.
Erin Routliffe's doubles partner in Cagnes-sur-Mer will be Ingrid Neel, with whom she lost in the first round in Prague two weeks ago. That was their first tournament together.
Routliffe and Nell were seeded fourth in Cagnes-sur-Mer, but lost in the first round to Viktorija Golubic and Katarina Zavatska.
Although she represents Switzerland, New Zealand-born Lulu Sun is playing in the W15 in Monastir this coming week. She's second in the qualifying list in the original acceptances, so will almost certainly make the main draw directly.
There were only eight acceptors into the qualifying draw, so all were given direct entry into the main draw. Sun beat fifth seed Anastasia Sukhotina in the first round and Polina Gubina in the second, but lost in the quarter-finals to second seed Yuliya Hatouka.
Updated entry lists:

21 September W15 Monastir
Lulu Sun is safely into the qualifying draw, assuming that she accepts to play. As she is there already I assume that will happen.

28 September W25 Porto
Paige Hourigan (currently 56th alternate)(now 50th)(now 27th)
Erin Routliffe (179th alternate)(now 168th)(now 107th)

They may play doubles together, as they have done successfully for New Zealand in Fed Cup.

Lulu Sun won her first round singles match in Monastir on Tuesday, beating 8th seed Anna Ureke (RUS) 6-2, 3-0 (retired). Her second round match today is against Marie Villet (FRA).

Her doubles partner is Lian Tran (NED), and they beat Lily Elida Haseth (NOR) and Maja Radenkovic (SWE) 7-5, 6-0, in the first round on Wednesday. Their quarter-final match today is against 2nd seeds Darya Astakhova (RUS) and Anastasia Sukhotina (RUS).
Lulu Sun beat Marie Villet 6-4, 4-6, 6-0, but she and Tran defaulted their doubles quarter-final due to the length of time Tran had already been on court for singles (three hours and 21 minutes). Sun lost her quarter-final on Thursday to top seed Shalimar Talbi (BLR) 0-6, 7-6 (2), 6-2, after bagelling her in the first set. 🥯🍩

Lulu Sun has qualified for the main draw in singles in Monastir, beating Marija Semenistaja 6-2, 6-0, in the first round of qualifying, and second seed Rita Atik 6-1, 6-1, in the second round.

The number of withdrawals has meant that Katherine Westbury has been moved into the main draw.

Erin Routliffe is only playing doubles in Porto, her partner being Jana Fett (CRO).
Lulu Sun had an easy win over Kathleen Kanev (GER) in the first round, winning 6-2, 6-2. In the second, she plays...surprise, surprise... Rita Atik again! Atik got in as a Lucky Loser, and had an easy win in the first round.

Katherine Westbury lost in the first round, beaten 6-4, 6-2 by Anna Ukolova (RUS).

Erin Routliffe and Jana Fett had a comfortable win in the first round of doubles in Porto, beating the British pair of Jodie Burrage and Olivia Nicholls 6-2, 6-4. In the quarter-finals they will play the third seeds, Leonie Kung (SUI) and Valeria Savinykh (RUS).

Lulu Sun beat Rita Atik (MAR) 6-0, 6-3, in the second round of singles at Monastir. In the quarter-finals she beat Chiara Catini (ITA) 6-1, 1-6, 6-4, but she lost the semi-final to top seed Shalimar Talbi (BLR), who had beaten her in the quarter-finals the previous week. The score this time was 6-3, 6-3.

Erin Routliffe and Jana Fett beat Leonie Kung and Valeria Savinykh, 5-7, 6-4, 10-6, in their doubles quarter-final in Porto. They were scheduled to play Francisca Jorge (POR) and Olga Parres Azcoitia (ESP) in the semi-final on Friday, but persistent rain meant that no matches could be completed. Rain has also delayed the start of play on Saturday.

Seeing I spend all my time at home, I thought I might as well bring this thread up to date. However, as it hadn't been touched in five years, I figured that a reboot was in order! :geek:

And how could I be lonely when we have all these wunnerful folks on TF offering such amazing insight into life, the Universe and everything! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Seriously, though, I'm marking time until the start of our cricket season (first practice matches next Saturday). That will take away a chunk of the time I spend on here but, of course, there will be far less stuff to worry about when the French Open has finished. I suspect that the number of threads will drop away quite a bit, especially seeing that there's only Ostrava and a handful of ITF tournaments left for the women this year.

Also seriously, it's good to know that at least one regular poster (as distinct from lurkers) looks at this thread.

Erin Routliffe and Jana Fett won their doubles semi-final in Porto, and started the final later that afternoon, against Jamie Loeb (USA) and Ana Sofia Sanchez (MEX). They had played for just over an hour when rain interrupted, with Routliffe and Fett at 6-2, 2-4. Loeb and Sanchez went on to take the second set when play resumed on Sunday, and eventually took the match tie-break as well. The final score was 2-6, 6-3, 10-8.

Lulu Sun has withdrawn from the latest tournament in Monastir, where Katherine Westbury is playing both singles and doubles. She and Diana Maria Mihail (ROU) lost their first round doubles match to second seeds Yvonne Cavalle-Reimers (ESP) and Eliessa Vanlangendonck (BEL), 6-1, 6-4.
