I'm going to watch Russia and France. By hook or by crook, I want me some Marat and Amelie action.
Good choices for qualifying. They usually look for countries that are lower on the international profile. Canada and Hungary fit the bill nicely. Interesting that they should choose Frank Dancevic over Simon Larose, who had a good Canadian Open (beating Gustavo Kuerten) at about the time they were selecting the players and nations.
Love that Marat is coming back. He so fine. He plays good tennis too. Elena Dementieva just missed out on selection. She was ranked behind Anastasia Myskina before the US Open.
Good to see Amelie is finally coming to play. I thought her exclusion had something to do with her sexuality. Perth is not the most gay-friendly city in the world. Hopefully she will be spared the usual homophobic banter some drunken lout is bound to shout out. Santoro is an interesting choice for partner. The mercurial Arnaud Clement would have been a better alternate in lieu of Sebastien Grosjean.
Surprised there was no Argentina. Wow. Thought they would have been an obvious choice. Paola Suarez probably hadn't figured into the equation yet at the time of selection. Bummer.
Surprised with the selection of Barbora Strycova. Denisa Chladkova must have passed. But Strycova seems to be a future Czech No. 1 anyway, so why not fast-track her like they did with Virginie Razzano a couple of years ago. Razzano hasn't come anywhere near French No. 1 but that's, um, beside the point...

Strange that only three continents are involved this year - North America, Australia and Europe, especially heavy on the European flavour. No Asians, Africans or South Americans involved.
Kim vs Lleyton will be interesting if it unfolds that way. Overall, I'm happy with the teams this year.
