Personally I think given how strong the field is that's a fairly decent draw for Emma, if you offered me that draw beforehand I think I would have taken it.

No I don't think so, I think it would be a direct swap.

Giorgi played an impressive 3 setter against Kudermetova in R1 in SJ, 67 64 57. Kudermetova is playing Ons Jabeur now and up 1 set, 76 30.
A tough R1 for Emma.

I am a bit disappointed with the draw. So many qalifiers or players that are not dangerous at the moment like Kenin, Stephens, or even Serena and Venus, some qualifiers or clay specialists. Giorgi is defending champion so for sure she will fight hard. However it's 50/50 I think.

Harriet Dart beat her in 3 sets during the grass season, and Korpatsch beat her in Stuttgart, so she's not infallible by any means. She quite a big hitter, but she does have a lot of days where she's not quite at her best, and Emma will probably hope for one of those.

Samsonova will actually be good prep for her Toronto match.

Giorgi situation is peculiar. She will have the pressure of being defending champion (with all those ranking points on the line) yet not the comfort of coming back to the same courts where she won. Not so bad for Emma.

A few hours have passed since the draw and I've reflected a bit more on it. Bottom line now, I'm not happy with it. I friggin' love Camila too, but obviously my loyalty is to Emma first and foremost. Doesn't mean I have to like this Round 1 encounter.

It's like last week when I learned that Marie Bouzkova was supposed to face Emma in D.C. for Round 1. Same thing. Good thing Marie pulled out and I'm seeing her play the qualification round tomorrow.

Do we know if Emma/Camila are playing on Monday or Tuesday? Day or night session? Regardless, I'm buying my tickets to see my two gals tomorrow at the venue's box office.
