NAZGÛL-100 OPEN (Miami, Florida, USA; outdoor hard; WTA Tier I)

This is an historic tournament in that Hawkeye will be used to verify line-calls for the first time ever on the WTA and ATP Tours. Each player will be allowed to challenge two line-calls per set (and one more in a tiebreak), but a challenge is not used up if the player is correct.

Bepa preview
------------

Bepa faces a desperately difficult draw in the horrible heat of Miami as she tries to snap a losing-streak of six matches.

1r: Out of all the other unseeded players, I think Dushevina would have been Bepa's nightmare. She lost to the Bad Vera at the Australian Open 2005, and again at Sydney 2006 where she suffered one of her infamous emotional meltdowns: crying, shouting, swearing, throwing her racket, arguing line-calls, complaining to her coach, &c. Apparently at the end of that match, Bepa was heard to say "I hate losing to that b****", or words to that effect. She'll need a much more positive attitude today. :eek:

2r: And if that wasn't bad enough, Bepa then has to face the muscular Kuznetsova, against whom she has a 2-6 head-to-head (Bepa beat her at Indian Wells 2003 and San Diego 2004). They last met at Moscow 2005, where Kuznetsova won 3-6 7-5 6-2.

3r: Should she get this far, I could dream of a nice match with Angela Haynes, but Bepa would almost certainly be facing a rematch against Hingis, who humiliated her 6-1 6-2 in the first round of the Australian Open.

Just one photo of Bepa from this tournament, and not a particularly good one either. :mad:

But here is a bigger version:
http://www.wtaworld.com/showpost.php?p=7652991

-----------
First round (Wednesday 22nd March)
-----------

+ Vera Zvonarëva d. Vera Dushevina, 6-4 6-2

I was so pessimistic when I went to look up Bepa's result that I thought she had 0 chance of winning, and was even worried about an embarrassing scoreline. So when I saw that the Good Vera had beaten the Bad Vera, I was even happier than when Maria Sharapova won Indian Wells! :D

Victory tastes much sweeter after a series of disappointments, and when it is unexpected.

------------
Second round (Friday 24th March)
------------

- Vera Zvonarëva lt. SVETLANA KUZNETSOVA [12], 6-2 6-2

Bepa served poorly, and had a woeful W:UE of 8:32. :(

-------
Doubles
-------

VERA ZVONARËVA/ELENA LIKHOVTSEVA [4]:
1r - Kveta Peschke/Francesca Schiavone, 6-3 6-0

Friday wasn't a good day for Bepa at all! :(

=======================
Bepa's next tournaments
=======================

At least Bepa is now on a losing-streak of only one match, and she can now look forward to the cooler climates of the European claycourt-season - her best surface, although she's versatile enough to excel on any.

But her next tournament will be on the green clay of Amelia Island (week of 3rd April). As I understand the situation, she needs one player to withdraw to be able to get into the main draw, but she's not willing to qualify if no such vacancy arises. Or they could give her a wild card.

She's also on the commitments for Charleston (week of 10th April), where she would have no such problems getting into the main draw.

Better Times Ahead?

Hi Andrew and Bepa fans,

I hope Bepa does well in the clay court season, the year started well enough before the Aussie Open when she reached a final. I'm off to the French Open hopefully to see Bepa after I go to Monaco to cheer Tim. Even the doubles results have started to tail off a little but I have faith as Bepa is the type of person that if she puts her mind to anything she can do really well:) All the best......
