Hi guys,

I decided to post this in here, because I don't want haters to get in on this talk. I would like some serious responses.

Since being blown away by Alexandra Stevenson 6-1 6-1 last fall, Jennifer has struggled to close out three set matches [since then ALL of her losses have been in three.]

Check it out:

Sanex Champs
Serena def. 2-6 6-4 6-4

Sydney
Panova def. 4-6 6-4 7-5 (NOTE: Jen was injured)

Australian Open
Weingartner def. 2-6 7-6 6-4 (NOTE: Jen was injured)

Dubai
Henin-Hardenne def. 7-5 4-6 6-4

Indian Wells
Davenport def. 6-4 4-6 6-4

Miami
Serena def. 4-6 6-4 6-1

Amelia Island
Davenport def. 6-3 5-7 6-2

Berlin
Clijsters def. 6-4 6-7 6-4

I don't get why she's struggling to close out matches.

I think it is just a confidence thing right now, maybe from the time off she has lost a little of that match toughness in 3 setters to close those out. I do think all she needs is one win over a top 5 player or in a close 3 setter and she will be on a confidence roll again.

I agree, I really hope she closes MoMo out tommorow because it looks like that's who she is going to have, and that would be a HUGE ego boost for her, and its much needed.. We all know that on ANY given day, Jen can put all players away. She just needs to know that, and how better to have it reitterated to her then with a big win. I say if she takes Momo tommorow, the field better watch out.....

I couldn't agree more, however, as much as I would like to see her down MoMo.....it's gonna be a big IF. It's such a catch 22, you need the mental toughness to beat someone, to help you get the mental toughness...it's like a merry-go-round!

i think when it comes down to it...she doesn't want it bad as other top players because if she really wanted to win she would have beaten a lot of people this year espcially that clijsters match in berlin...i mean that was hers after she own the second set.

I haven't posted in here in a while and this thread seemed a perfect way to get back in the grrove.

No. 1 is Jen's mental toughness. She has that fighting spirit, but I feel it shows up when its a little too late. She is great when she is down, but when she is leading, its so obvious Jen takes her foot off the gas!!!

No. 2 is aggressiveness. Against Lindsay at AI, she was letting Lindsay dictate the points by hitting the ball back to her. Sure jen can move, but after a while, she is gona lose control of the point. Elena D showed EXACTLY how to attack Lindsay i.e. be aggressive, go for the big shots and move her around.

BUT since then, Jen's physical conditioning has improved, she is definitely being more aggressive and her serve is holding up well :)

A win against Momo tomorrow is key. If she wins, I think that will boost Jen to believe that she can win again against the very best!

And the thing is, I think Jen can defeat Momo!!

Good luck Jen :D :D :D

I agree with all that has been said. It is all mental! ANd Jen is no quitter, so she's gonna keep fighting until she has the breakthrough! I think it is going to happen tomo. Momo isn't known for her mental toughness, and I think Jen is really hungry for that big win. Jen in 2 set!!!

Its just a matter of time, really. It also seems to me like her fitness has improved throughout the season, and thats really just me being unbiased, which I do think is possible. As long as she can still track those balls down and convert them into points, she has as good of a chance as anyone. It seemed to be in the beginning (well even after the surgery) she was getting to the balls, but creating errors with them.... Now she's getting to them and converting them into points, which is key for her. She's on a roll, and only seeems to be improving!!!
Best of Luck Jenny!!!!!!!!

I honestly don't think that jen losing those three set matches was a bid deal she had chances in all of them but just wasn't able to capitalize, and if u look at her results from 2001 she only lost three times in str8 sets and that wasn't til after wimbledon!!!
