What win was a fluke?

In the past years, during weak spells due to major injuries of the best players, some other players were able to win a slam but did not do much else in their career (no #1, very few title wins).

These players come to mind:

Myskina- RG 2004
Schiavone- RG 2010
Li- RG 2011
Stosur - US Open 2011
Kvitova- Wimbledon 2011

Who do you think is the most flukish winner?

In my opinion, Stosur. Yes she reached another slam final, but she has like 2 single title wins, what the hell?:help:

Schiavone also won her slam but other wins are all mickey mouse tournaments.

It is sad when slams are won by a fluke because their importance is diminished.

Myskina defeated Capriati and Venus.
Schiavone's performance in the RG 2010 F was outstanding.
Li had to defeat Kvitova, Azarenka, and Sharapova - back to back to back.
Kvitova defeated Sharapova in her final.
Stosur defeated Serena in her final and played outstanding.

If I had to choose, it's either Kvitova or Schiavone. But we know Kvitova is not a fluke - we know she is going to dominate the tour eventually. So I guess it's Fran.

Anyway I cast my votes to Myskina, Schiavone and Li just because (we all know) these players can never win a slam again.
I didn't cast my vote to Sam becoz at least she beat Serena, the best WTA player of the decade, to win her slam. It is an acceptable win.

also the fact that a player played great to win the slam (they all did of course) does not mean it's not a fluke. For some reason, they were able to peak at a slam, while doing not much before and after, that is what i define as a fluke.

sure, these players all were #1 and 2 of them are legends. Deluded much?:tape:
Are you not a former TWAT winner? that would explain many things. Why so serious?

And if you included Kvitova as a fluke winner, then Ivanovic should be a fluke winner. Ivanovic became #1 because Henin retired. :wavey:

I don't think any of those were flukes, if you mean "fluke" in the sense of just being totally lucky about how the draw opened up and never/before having any kind of success. For instance, in her Frogeater Open year, 2004, Myskina reached the QF in the Aussie Open, and the SF of IW and won Doha, against Clijsters, Henin and Kuznetsova, respectively. She then beat Kuznetsova, Venus, Capriati and Demented to win Frog Open, and afterwards she did well at the Olympics, the USOpen series, Moscow and the YEC. And won Fed Cup for Russia.

Tough call.

I think the winners at RG have been so bad of late (Sharapova being the lone exception in the last couple of years) that the entire tournament is losing credibility. I consider it the least of the 4 majors because the results there are so random and its winners so weak.

Therefore I voted for Kvitova. Its not that she was not deserving. She won fair and square. But the Williams sisters have been so dominate, that any victory outside of them has to be a bit of a fluke. And of the 3 who have done it the last 13 years, Sharapova, Mauresmo and Kvitova.... I view her the weakest of the 3.

(I'm not sure how sound that logic is:D)

My second choice would have been Li Na. She has done nothing since RG. Talk about all hype. She looks like she cashed in her big check and her tennis career is no longer a top priority. She's too content.

i agree, the FO has become a bit of a joke, it was already with Majoli winning, etc. It makes me sad because it diminishes Ana`s achievement. Still, Stosur win at the US Open is even more mindblowing considering that is a hard GS to win

Kvitova went on to win the YEC (not losing a match) and went SF-SF-QF in slams.

Certainly a much better performance after her slam win in comparison to Li - who took until the start of '12 to really start playing half decently. I think your second choice is much more reasonable.

Though, I agree with you in Li being far too content. I think this is Kvitova's problem too.
