NOTE: There are only two GOOD players bigger than Monica on the tour. That is to say, two players she can't beat with raw power. There's an interesting correlation in the head-to-heads.
(I'm assuming Venus outweighs her. Venus is two inches taller, so this isn't unreasonable. It just may be inaccurate.)

I understand her record vs Venus and Lindsay. Her record vs Martina is the usual Martina smoke and mirrors I guess.

The #10 ranking IS misleading.

Indeed it is. Never in her life has Monica played her way below #8. When she gets injured and does not play, she occasionally drops lower. If she is short on tournaments and defending points from the previous year, she still manages to go up. (See Feb-May2000 or July-Aug2001)

Well, keep in mind she must quite a bit last year when she had lots of points to defend.. she also missed the year-end championships, so that's why she's at #10. But, she definately plays well above her ranking! I think she'll get it back up to at least 5-6 this year.

More to the point, there are 3 players in the current top 12 that Monica has not beaten from Wimbledon to now. Lindsay she is 0-2 against. Amelie she has not played. Monica is the 3rd one.

Why 2000?

Seemed fair. The whole current top ten was at least on the radar screen. And it gives more results than using 2001.

Well Rollo if she does get to #4 before Paris (not that hard to imagine, especially since Kim and Lindsay are injured) and assuming she stays healthy and continues to play at her current level and we know she does well on clay, then she won't be very far beyond the top 3 (vw, jc, mh).
And Monica has nothing to defend at either RG or Wimby.

Whereas Jennifer has a lot of points to defend.
Finalist at Ericsson and Berlin.
Winner at Hilton Head and Roland Garros.
Semis at Scottsdale and Wimbledon.

The only tournaments she could gain points at would be Amelia Island and Rome, and she might lose a lot of points.

I anticipate Monica being no lower than #3 the week after Wimbledon. Quote me.
Wow, DH. That's a bold statement. I don't think anyone above her will move over easily.

I think Monica will be in the top 4... not 3. We shall see though. Good luck Monica!! :bounce:

Nice thread!! Seems Monica has little problems with anyone except for 3 people ;)

but there's no place in the top 4

there's jennifer who looks to stay firmly there
there's venus and martina too
monica has to look to jump into that 4th spot while lindsay's gone

Yes she has Pheonix but that was too long ago, I think it is in one of the warmup tourneys to Australian Open in 1996 (I just try to remember throguh my head so maybe incorrect). But I am sure there will be many chances when Lindsay return from her injury.

She's beaten Lindsay twice before (both times I believe Lindsay had match points as well) I believe, both wins were a long time ago though.
