Today I arrived a bit later than usual and the matches had already started for some time. I lost another 20 minutes waiting to buy the tickets, but I still managed to watch the second and third sets from Jelena’s match. When I arrived Jelena was losing 2-1 in the second set and that would be a crucial game because Jelena was 0-40 down and saved tons of break points to win that game, with some unforced errors from Bondarenko and with some good serves from Jelena. From then on Jelena started to play better, she was always controlling the points but his time she was making winners and not unforced errors. Alyona also started to miss more and Jelena naturally won the second set. However after the first games of the third set, Jelena returned to the unforced errors mode and Alyona made her run, which resulted in more errors from Jelena, as her movement is a lot worse than it was. She still hits very hard, but she’s still clearly not fit enough and needs more matches to get back in rhythm. The last games were a bit of a tank from Jelena with tons of bad unforced errors, going for winners on the first ball. After this match I went to the practice courts an saw Michaella Krajicek playing with another girl that I don’t know. Then I went to watch Neuza Silva. I was a bit disappointed with the first set, Neuza made too many unforced errors and served terribly, making some double faults. Dally was always very consistent and alternated high balls with more aggressive balls. She hit some nice backhand winners. In the second set Neuza played much better and the result could have been different had she taken her break point chances. Neuza looks much more consistent than when I saw her before and her backhand has improved a lot, I actually think that she made more unforced errors with her forehand, she also has a good slice and hit some good drop shots, but her serve needs more work. After not taking her chances, Neuza started to miss more again and Dally, used her experience to win the match. In the end of this match, I went to a doubles match between Ferreira/Gloria and Muller/Osterloh. Catarina and Melanie were up 4-1 but they lost the next five games. It was a close match but Martina and Lilia knew what they to do to win, they kept coming to the net and pressing them to make errors. I have to say that Catarina and Melanie looked completely clueless at the net and that made some of the difference. Lilia has her leg taped, but she seems fine. After this match, the only women’s match was Antonella Serra Zanetti against Nicole Pratt. This was a long match, despite the score not being close. Nicole was making Antonella run from side to side, but Antonella returns everything, which made Nicole hit some unforced errors. Things changed in the second set, as Nicole started to play great, finishing the points with winners. And Antonella had no other plan for this match. There some long rallies that most of the time ended with Nicole’s winners. She deserved to win this match, because was more aggressive. As there were no women’s matches after this, I went to watch Marta Marrero practicing with Maria Sanchez Lorenzo. They both look great and played a set, which I think Maria won. The last match of the day was Rodrigues/Wigan against Serra Zanneti/Serra Zanneti. The sisters won it easily, because Katia and Tara made too many errors and Adriana and Antonella kept coming to the net and finishing the points quickly. This was the last of my reports, I hope you enjoyed them.
