Watching her this week I have noticed just how SLOW she looks when moving laterally. The cartilage injection in her knee and back problems and a myriad of other injuries make me worry that she will never get back the footspeed necessary to be a top player winning slams.

THIS IS SAD. Like Hingis she is one of my faves because of her ENORMOUS TALENTS. But like Hingis I am afraid that INJURIES may be the bane of her career. Hopefully I am wrong and she get her footspeed back cuz without it no amount of big hitting is gonna be enough IMO. Speed is too important in tennis these days.

Amelie retired from her match because she had an upset stomach.

I do feel sorry for MOMO I mean every other mouth it seems she got something wrong with her. It must get her down and she just must think to her self what can I do

I also would love to see Amélie play injury-free for an extended period of time. But it is hard to judge her current fitness level based on what you saw this week. She is rusty from lack of tournament play, and tonight, as lizchris said, she was ill.

Hope she gets better quick and comes to the Open ready to do some real damage. :)

Well Todd Martin had every injury in the book, and surgeries too; Chanda missed huge chunks of many a season; and both of them had/have pretty great careers in spite of it all.

Amélie seems destined to have a career path of that sort. It's hard. But the good part of it is, the weeks away from the Tour are weeks without wear and tear on her joints and bones. If she can hang in there, her career might have some large holes in it, but it can still be long and illustrious even with a problematic body.

True. (See: Graf, S.)
