Hmmm so today Hopman Cup action got under way with Molik and Vavrinec. And well it wasn't the highest quality of tennis as both playerd played kinda up and down throughout the whole match.
Both have really powder puff second serves and the worst part was neither player really capitalized on them.
Molik, has a pretty good first serve when its on, and her volleys are excellent but her groundstrokes are still iffy. She uses a lot of the topspin one handed backhand like Amelie which gets her in trouble especially when she has to it on the run. She should stab/slice more. Her forehand was much more of a weapon, setting up nice approach shots and good crosscourt shots. Though she's still really weak off of the baseline. Her groundstrokes "pop" up alot and well she's still very weak from the back.
Molik says she wants to be top 30 this year. I think it will be tough for her since she really doesn't have the game in the backcourt to compete with the other girls. If she consistently served and volleyed she might get there. She's very natural at the net, but has a really stinky topspin lob shot, Vavrinec got them all back.
This was the first time that I saw Vavrinec play. And well she played streakily. She has a lovely backhand, very nice. Forehand is okay. Doesn't have to much pace and well I don't see her reaching top 50 unless she really steps her game. She said she liked coming up to the net, though she really didn't come up to the net and when she did her volleys weren't too good. Very much a player that could do well under some intense training! <img src="smile.gif" border="0">
