I'm sure we're all still processing MLB's COMPLETE career-turnaround, in only two weeks of January.

Us long-suffering Miki fans who have seen WAYYY too much.

But this success was not entirely unexpected, even by the most cynical amongst us.

Her game has been coalescing the last three years.

She's old and her body is feeling the strain, for sure.

But even if she feels a bit creaky, she has a SUPERPOWER game.

And she is absolutely, totally, truly, and COMPLETELY "back in the conversation" as a WTA contender.

We all know she'll only be around this year and maybe next, but her team should be reasonably targeting Wimbledon.

She has to "target" something. The luxury (and pressure) of being able to "target" a big title comes with a recent result like hers.

We all know that Miki and her coach are talking seriously about Wimbledon.

But she is now in the unique position of having to perform as a dangerous Top 30 player while also being at the end of her actual career, and seeing herself leave the game, soon.

If she can focus and keep momentum in the next few months, especially at Indian Wells and Miami ...

Let's see what our girl can do, now that the whole page has been rewritten.

I would not worry about her goals. Her coach said that he believes from what he sees at practice that Mirjana can win Grand Slam title. And he said coming to Melbourne that was his main goal, to make Mirjana believe she can actually do it.
He said she should be in even better form for Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
I managed to find few words from Synowka. He also said Mirjana plays crazy good at practices, that she hits incredible when she is free and that she for sure should be top 10 player. To be honest, I have a lot of respect for Maciej and think he has done really good job with Mirjana.
This is interesting now because I am really excited for her to play again, but she must not overplay. So my guess is she will play Indian Wells, Miami, Charleston(already entered), Madrid, Rome, Roland Garros, one grass tournament or 2 if she looses early before Wimbledon.
And then after Wimbledon she defends around 130 points until the end of year.

Would love to see her in Dubai, but if she does not get a WC I guess being highly seeded in Acapulco is not bad either. To bad Doha is not Premier 5 this year, courts there suit her game.

Just realized this March it will be 10 years since Mirjana out of nowhere showed up in Indian Wells and won her first match. And did a really good job in R2 as well. Time flies!

Good thread, but let's put it under the Mirjana sub-forum.

Hope Mirjana is home relaxing, resting and healing her body, counting the coins she earned in Australia, and planning her next move(s).

All I wanted from Mirjana before she retires was a strong GS performance and a new career-high ranking, so that *I* could exorcise within me the demons from her past. She did both last month, so I am now at peace with her career.

It would be great, of course, if she could win another title or reach another CHR (top 25?) but if she doesn't, it simply won't matter. From here on, it's all gravy, at least for this fan.

Thanks. Did this not appear as a sub-forum thread? I meant it to be one of our usual subforum yearly Miki-threads.

Do I have to fix that? Let me know. Thnx ...

BTW ... I am totally on-page with you, in this regard, in this estimation.

This woman never needs to take another step on the court again.

She has crushed all of her doubters, thrilled her little bunch of fans, and she really has recaptured the whole WORLD.

Millions of people were touched and moved by Miki, beyond tennis, this past month.

I hope to HELL she is negotiating deals right now. Including publishing and endorsement deals.

Umm ... I'm fairly sure she IS signing some deals right now.

Absolutely. Her story is GOLD.

As for the rest ...

WIMBLEDON.

Yes, it's all gravy now, but Mirjana ABSOLUTELY should be aiming for Wimbledon.

She should have a map of Wimbledon on her bedroom wall (with sexy Daniele)

And that map should have Wimbledon in crosshairs.

Mirjana TOTALLY could win Wimbledon.

Her big beautiful game ... ohhhhhh

And when I say she needs it as a goal, I mean it in a good way:

Mirjana has EARNED the privilege of targeting Wimbeldon.

It's not a pipe-dream, or a far-fetched thing, anymore.

She could win it.

Part of winning something like that, for these pros, is proximity.

I mean, they have to be within hitting distance to start seriously talking with their team and assembling a team ABOUT a big title.

Miki is within striking distance of a title like that.

NOW.

Not later, not yesterday, not ever.

NOW.

Pressure is a privilege, as BJK said.

Miki never has to win another match, period.

But seeing as she is in this ... she needs to sink her teeth into that hunger for Wimby. And just USE her big game to achieve it.

USE HER BIG GAME.

Did Mirjana talk to Croatian press why she does not play Fed Cup ?

Mirjana has not played Fed Cup since 1998  :(

BTW in Fed Cup singles Mirjana has an excellent 12-1 record :speakles:

Fed Cup ? The World Cup of Tennis
Apparently, it's COMPLICATED.

Mirjana Lucic and the Fed politics.

We would have to get some deeper insights from actual Croatians, about this issue. And even our Croatians have been at a loss to explain the strange relationship.

From what I gather, Mirjana's father looms as a deal-breaker, every time.

(And I don't buy that for a second --the guy has got to be old, fat, and nearly dead from the weight of his own evil.)

He is an old toad, by now.

Also, Iva Majoli is a witch on wheels.

She is entitled to be the witch that she is, but still.

I think Mirjana has made some mistakes on that Fed Cup count, the past decade, as well as others. Not just her, obviously.

I only hope to GOD that she doesn't let those scary sisters get their awful, snaggly claws into her career, now that her ship has come in again.

JESUS, Miki ... put it in a mutual fund and hide in your hubby's restaurant, if you must.

KEEP YOUR FAMILY AWAY FROM YOUR MONEY.

I'm just picturing the horrid Lucic sisters crawling-in like hungry crabs upon Miki.

And you know Mirjana is just letting that shit happen.

Hopefully, her husband will put a stake in those vampiresses.

Who knows?

Anyway, she ain't playin' Fed Cup for Croatia ever again.

@mikireturns

I always thought that Iva Majoli is a nice woman ???
Why do Mirjana and Iva dislike each other ???

Maybe Mirjana plays Fed Cup if Croatia reaches World Group 2 play-offs ;)

I have never heard anything bad about her sisters.

I know she is close to them.

Yes, I think her husband should help her handle the $$$. If he's got two restaurants, he must know something about business.

Per the rest of the year - it sounds like she is still motivated to do more.

If so, she could definitely have some more good results.

Focusing on the majors seems smart.

I think she said she was only going to play big tournaments, anyway, even before the Aus. Open run. In fact, her run may have been helped by the fact she had a light schedule post Wimbledon.

I wouldn't be surprised either way about Monterrey. I think she'll probably show up their since she has the QF points to defend. By that time, it will have been a full month since her last match.

she never played again after fleeing Croatia in July 1998.

As others have said, she agreed to play a couple of years ago - I think it was 2015. But, she withdrew because of injury. She had a leg injury at the Aus. Open that year and was crushed 6-1 6-1. Apparently, she wasn't ready when the Fed Cup tie came around a few weeks later.
