Might be time to retire the joke that there’s not enough crowds in China

Compare 2023 Crowd to 2025 SF crowd

Beijing became a Premier/1000 in 2009, and Wuhan in 2014. Maybe they just needed more time to grow, especially since tennis is more newly growing in popularity to China compared to other places.

I have to put in a word for the way the Chinese fans support the players with nicknames, gifts, banners and posters etc. I also like that adults are there as fans with their signs. It seems like if you are not a kid with a ball at the other tournaments, people think you’re weird fanboy/girling a player.
We need a definitive nickname list!

Crowds have been great all year so far. When I posted China crowd numbers in other years, people said they were fake numbers
ATP & WTA are there because of money, and crowds are a small part

Don't think crowds are the problem. It's just that this Asia swing has always felt like an afterthought.

The European indoor swing never felt this way IMO.

You can also imagine from a player's perspective: unless you're trying to get a YEC spot, a rankings boost for next year's slams entry or seedings, why bother?

It's normal there are crowds when people are on holidays.

2023 was an one week event starting on Oct 2.

2025 is a two week event starting on Sep. 22 and moved Wuhan for a better slot (to always include National Day within the two weeks).

National Days are always October 1, 2, 3 each year. If it lies on a weekend it gets moved before or after and if it doesn't lie on a weekend the day not off gets moved before or after to make the weekend a working day. Mid-Autumn Festival (Moon) was on Sep. 29, 2023 and October 6, 2025.

2023: Oct 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8
2025: Sep 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, Oct 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

2023: Official holidays were Sep 29 - Oct 6.
2025: Official holidays are Oct 1 - Oct 8.

Are holidays (whole Golden Week) this year all the time till October 8?
I need that information not only for tennis (I work with Chinese).

I know there are huge crowds everywhere for National Day in China.
I still hope there can be like that this week in Wuhan too, in after-holidays days.
