Grand Slam champions will meet at Mohegan Sun. The Connecticut casino announced today that Martina Navratilova will play Monica Seles in a three-set exhibition match scheduled for Saturday, December 1st in the Mohegan Sun Arena. It will be the first tennis match ever played in the arena.

The 45-year-old Navratilova replaces Lindsay Davenport, who was forced to withdraw from the match after injuring her knee in the semifinals of the Sanex WTA Championships in Munich, Germany.

"We wish Lindsay the best of health as she recovers from her knee injury," said Mohegan Sun vice president of sports and entertainment Paul Munick. "We will indeed miss the WTA's No. 1 ranked player in the world. However, we are extremely fortunate to have Martina with us, arguably, the best women's tennis player ever."

Navratilova's 167 career singles titles are more than any male or female tennis player, and her 18 Grand Slam singles titles, are third among all women players (tied with Chris Evert). Navratilova has won a record nine Wimbledon singles titles; 19 Wimbledon titles in total (singles, doubles, mixed doubles); and six straight grand slam titles from 1983 Wimbledon to 1984 U.S. Open, tying Margaret Court's record of six straight from 1969-1971.

Tickets for the Martina Navratilova versus Monica Seles tennis match are on sale now for $40, $30 and $20. Tickets are available at Mohegan Sun's new, expanded in-house Box Office located at the Spring Gateway connecting the Casino of the Earth and The Shops at Mohegan Sun. Tickets can also be purchased on-line through tickets.com or by calling tickets.com at (800) 477-6849.
Well Any Predictions??

Since it is an exhibition, no harm done. But this is an itch Martina N has that needs scratching much like Michael Jordan's. Just does not have a life outside of tennis, sad really. Both should take a page out of Mark McGwire's book. Enough already!

What's wrong with that? I admire Martina's love for the game. Keep going Martina!

Its sad really that arrogant posters such as Tseqouia01 think they are in some sort of position to tell a champion like Martina (and MJ for that matter) what they should or shouldnt be doing with their lives.
I too admire Martina's love for the game, it doesnt matter if she only gets 3 or 4 games off Monica, Martina has nothing to prove.

Arrogant? What does arrogance have to do with identifying a grandma who does not know when to let go? At least Michael is only 38. Martina is 45 for godsake. She firmly believes she can compete with these players who are young enough to be her daughters. Again it is only an exhibition, but at best she is a novelty, at worst an embarassment for people looking to see a competitive match. At least change the match from an exhibition to a nostalgic moment. I know Monica will not take it seriously.

Actually, she has said (repeatedly) that she knows she can't compete in singles. In doubles, to judge by her results, she's still quite competitive.

If she's having fun playing and we're having fun watching, what's the harm?

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm a hell of a lot more likely to make the run down I95 to see Monica play Martina in and exhibition than I am to see Monica play just about anyone else besides Amelie. But hey, whatever melts your butter.

Tseqouia - The arrogance Im referring to, is the part of you, a small town nobody, whos never done anything noteworthy in their life feeling they are in some sort of 'know-all' position to tell Martina Navratilova what she should or shouldnt do....
Just wanted to explain that seeing as you didnt posess the intelligence to understand it yourself...Not surprising judging by your posts...

Nothing wrong with this at all. Martina is not a Grandma either. She's not even a mother (yet)

I agree with you griffin. There are only a few players that I'd pay to watch live, Martina being one of them.

Czechfan a Martina Fan Huh? You may not believe it but so am I. I know, a lie you can live with, but the truth shakes you to your so sensitive little bones. As for what I have done with my life, am intelligent enough to know, you don't have a clue regarding it. I've spent many hours watching Navratilova play over the years. But she is like a lot of other aged athletes who just do not know when to let go. Fan adulation is like an opiate with them. A so called "Know-It-All"..... hmmm I think not, because we are both intelligent enough to understand that these boards contain opinions not directives.

Czechfan, do you know TSequoia personally???I don't think so . I know him and can tell you that he is NOT from a small town... He may not have as much money as Martina Navratilova, but he has enough and he is certainly NOT a nobody.
When will some fans QUIT persoanlly attacking others in defense of their precious favourites??

Infiniti - I dont need to know Tseqoiua personally to know that he/she/it is in no position to be calling the shots on Martina Navratilovas life.
And the answere to your question "When will some fans QUIT persoanlly attacking others in defense of their precious favourites?? "

Is, when some fans QUIT PERSONALLY ATTACKING OUR FAVES, I thought that went without saying.

Oh get over it... Not too long ago many posters defended navratilova for stating her opinion about the Williames. Why shouldn't anyone else state theirs now???

I know she will be playing an exhibition, but I personally hope that Monica humiliates her off the court...

Is it not amazing that posters like TSequoia01 have so much knowledge on the facets and reasonings of other peoples lives, that the best they can do is post it on a public board?

Surely with this wonderful insight there are so many books they could be writing, so many high level professional arenas they could be aspiring too.

Unfortunately their aspirations seem to only reach to insulting and degrading, what many call a legend.

Oh well, C'est la vie

Infinity - hehehe, still getting over Martina voicing her opinion on Richard Williams onbiously??

I think YOU are the one that needs to get over it!!

The thing is, Martina has done so much with her life, that people LISTEN and pay heed to her opinion, unlike you me, and tseqouia who are really just average people leading their average lives....

LOL @ your motivation for wanting mOnica to whip her!!!! (poor Willi fan upset at criticism!!!)

The thing is, Martina has nothing to lose.. Even if she gets whipped it'll mean NOTHING!! hehehe

Martina actually does a lot away from tennis. She has her pilots license...she plays on the Aspen Mother Puckers hockey team...she makes wood furniture out of her garage (I saw this on 'Real Sports' on HBO). Martina has co-written a few books...is active in a lot of charities from gay rights to pet rights (when Martina was on '....Millionaire' the money she won was going to a 'Save the Rhino' org. that Martina's friend started and an org. Martina participates in herself.) Martina does have a life away from tennis...people just don't know about it I guess. But tennis is Martina's true love.

Good luck to both ladies...Monica and Martina

UMMM this was just an analogy... Only someone who doesn't know me personally could call me a poor Willi fan who is upset because of critisism, so I'll excuse you

Again an IDIOT fan replied in this thread trying to degrade again a player whos name is not Williams.

I DONT CARE IF MARTINA IS OLD, As long as she loves tennis, she can play.

This was a nice thread about the exhibition of Navratilova and Seles until a replied of disrespectful fan occured.
