Is anyone know if Maria Sharapova is playing at Osaka Mayor's Cup - World Super Junior Tennis Championships next week? I am very hopeful but I doubt she will since she can't be bothered flying out! Her 2 next junior tournaments will be Eddie Herr and Orange Bowl. I am pretty sure of it.

Will we have Kremlin Cup tournament next year? If it is moved to China, then we have no WTA tournament in Russia. I would be really pissed off!! I want Maria to recieve a WC into Qualifying or Main draw next year at Kremlin Cup but... what's happening!!!

Go Maria!

Kremlin Cup moving is just a rumor

as for Maria at Osaka .......

we've been trying to find out .... but the pdf file is not working

I hope she's entered
Eddie Herr Champs are great.

It's not the same without the late great Eddie Herr anymore but the tourn and his name will remain forever.

I hope she plays for Russia U16 next yr .... we could have done with her this yr.

A Sharky sighting! It's nice to have you back where you belong. Would Maria really fly all the way to Japan for one tournament? I doubt it. Especially since she might get a great player in the first round. Why doesn't she play doubles? There is a good chance that the Russian Tennis Federation will lease the Kremlin Cup to Bejiing through 2008. The thought of that upsets me. The head of the Russian Tennis Federation, Shamil Tarpischev said they could lease it to Bejiing through 2008. He said the Chinese were offering them alot of money, that would solve all of the financial problems for the Russian Tennis Federation. I read that in the Moscow Times. I hope they don't lease the Kremlin Cup to China. But I think they will. I hope the wealthy Russian players will keep them from leasing the tournament to China. The Russian players are the last hope for the Kremlin Cup remaining in Russia. Unfortunately, we all know how cheap tennis players are.

P.S. - Russia has 11 women in the WTA top 200. And they have an amazing 17 junior girls in the ITF 18u top 200. Even though the Russian girls don't know how to win, they have a very bright future. Especially with the junior girls. These players need tournaments in Russia to inspire future stars. Russia should be adding tournaments. Not taking them away.

P.P.S. - It's time the men's tournament in St. Petersburg, Russia, added the women to it's field. The tournament would then garner alot more attention.

P.P.P.S.- Udachi Maria Sharapova! Wherever you are.

I was dismayed to learn that young Maria was wearing the same idiotic skin-baring outfit, worn so famously by Ashley Harkleroad at the US Open, when she played in Kentucky.

It was bad enough on Harkleroad, but Maria is even younger! It is disgusting that Maria's parents or advisors plan to send her down that "Sex Sells" road too. But clearly, in these cases Money Talks.

Pathetic.

Janie, I don't much like the outfit either. But Maria is only 100 very slender pounds. She can't fill out the outfit like the more developed Ashley can. I was a little surprised to see Ashley wear that somewhat revealing Nike outfit. But she wanted to wear it. Thankfully, Maria can't yet wear it with the same effect Ashley does. These two girls are lovely and talented. They only need to wear the basics, IMO. Nothing too fancy or revealing. They sure do market them young now, don't they? Who is advising these girls to wear these outfits? Certainly not their mothers. Right?

P.S. - By the way, that's the first time I've ever typed IMO. I'm trying to catch up to the twenty first century!

cat,
My concern is that the parents of these young kids ARE the ones who want to go for sexy approach, because they look at Anna K and see dollar signs!! Anna's huge income was never before seen by any player ranked below the top 2 or 3, and that must look very tempting to families from modest backgrounds.

But this approach by Maria's promoters/advisors/ whoever is behind it, is turning me against this 14-year-old junior, even though I know is not fair.

BTW, I was VERY impressed with your use of "IMO"!!!

Janie, thank you for being impressed with my first use of IMO! Remember, Maria Sharapova moved to Florida a little more than one year after Anna Kournikova did. So, I'm sure Maria is going to molded the same way Nick Bollettieri molded Anna. And that's a scary thought! Maria is already very fashion concious. Just like Anna was at that very young age. I just hope that Maria's advisors aren't so concerned about Maria's endorsements, that they forget about her tennis. I think Maria will learn from Anna's mistakes, and always put tennis first. Tennis first, and looks second. Right?

Udachi Maria! Eggy, is this a G5 tournament? If it is, Maria should roll, right?

P.S. - Janie, please don't have grave misgivings. I'm confident Maria's parents and advisors won't lead her down the same sexy and glamourous path that Anna Kournikova travelled. I hope not anyway.

Wow! When Maria pounds an opponent, she really puts the screws to her! It's hard to believe someone so slight (5'8" and 105lbs.) as Maria can crush her opponents so easily. Udachi Maria!

Maria's 5'8" already, at age 14?? Same height as Anastasia and AnnaK! !t must be THE Russian height to be!

But I bet you anything that Maria is still growing; she looks like a little kid still. I wonder how tall she will get??

Janie, hopefully Maria won't grow too tall. Because she is going to be on the slender side. A height of 5'9" or 5'10" tall would be nice. That way she could get on top of her serve. Like you said, Maria is built like Anna and Anastassia. But I hope Maria won't be as injury prone as they are. Udachi Maria!
