True.... Maria thru to 2nd round - Vika not :grin2:

Should it not be "Maria could as well pull off the upset"

nah, i was looking at their H2Hs combined with their performances in the first round here. on paper it's mashas match to lose, if it was vika regardless of current form an upset by kerber would be really not likely at 1-8 H2H. ;)

Bonaventure's game is well suited for grass. I'm not sure about her fitness being bad though. She did look fit, it's just that she has a different body type with wider hips than usual.

Kerber won all their grass matches and is certainly the better player of the two for a while. Actually she won the last 3 matches. Maria may pull the upset, but as we now form is temporary while class is permanent. Like it or not, grass is Angie's home. It is the surface where legends thrive.

Angie :yeah: She really needs to string together some more gutsy wins. Such a shame she is playing Masha next round already.

I was just so happy to see Angie play again. It would have been a disaster if she had lost. This should've been a 6-3 6-3 win tbh. I'm finding angie's movement very suspect, but could just be rustiness since she hasn't played since may 26.

I went back to watch her Wimbledon 2018 final, and she just simply did not have the missteps and lunges you saw today.

But it was a nice treat to watch her celebrate points. Lately it seems she's just always annoyed when she wins points.

I just checked, but she is 11th in the race, not too bad, considering this year hasn't gone well
