Cornet withdraws.

The poor Alizè has seen on the board that she was called to play with Pliskova, so fainted and fell heavily on the ground, getting a back injury.

C'mon Alizè, she was Kristyna! Wake up, breath, don't be terrified!

Just to add one more confusing wrinkle, Barty withdrew from the final round of qualifying, giving Ozaki a walkover into the main draw. I would have guessed that makes her ineligible for a lucky loser spot, but apparently not!

If a player is forced to retire or withdraws from the Qualifying,
she may retain her right to Lucky Loser status for the duration of
the Tournament provided that:
(i) She signs in with the Supervisor by the Lucky Loser dead
line;
(ii) She receives a medical examination from the Tournament
Physician and PHCP;
(iii) The Main Draw match is not scheduled for the same day
she retired/withdrew from her Qualifying match.
The tournament Twitter account says Barty is planning to stick around for the doubles, so I'd imagine there's a good chance we'll see her in main draw singles as well. After withdrawing. :eek:

Players who WD after the main draw is made deserve big fines.

Otherwise, the WTA is saying it's ok to sign up for tournaments and use them for insurance against losing early in the preceding tournament.
