Wow. I don't think anyone expected maam to have this much progress this week. A jump from 48 to 32, giving Clijsters a scare in the first set, I really think she has it going on again. Here she is in this weeks rankings.

29 28 E. DANIILIDOU 1106.75
30 29 L. RAYMOND 1045.00
31 48 M. PIERCE 927.00
32 32 T. TANASUGARN 922.75

She has zero to defend for the rest of the year, and faces Srebotnik in the first round of Zurich, which sholud be a win for her - followed by Clijsters . She's off the next week, but then plays the Bell Challenge in Montreal. If rankings stay like they are now until Montreal, she will be seeded number one, and even for a tier III, it's a pretty weak draw, and Mary has a really good chance of taking it, for her first tournament title since Rolland Garros 2000. That would send her up a bit more in the rankings. With her year end ranking in the top 30, it would be a big accomplishment.

Next year, I believe it will be a "re-break-out" year for maam. Because her ranking will begin in the top 30, she would get direct entry into most tier I's and II's, and get her seeded in grand slams again. She get's to play much more. Playing like she is now, she could do serious damage in those draws. She has almost zero to defend until Wimbledon, and so she can go for everything before that - nothing to lose. If her play keeps up next year, I really think she can make it back to at least the top 15. Any thoughts?

I would love to see Mary win a tounament! I think she can continue to improve next year as well, but I am concerned about that leg injury she had so taped up in Filderstadt. Hopefully she can just stay healthy and keep improving. If her health is good, her fitness will continue to improve and she can do damage in Australian on a surface she loves. I was so glad to see her result last week and even though she could well lose to Kim again this week, you never know....she might keep it close like that first set and then- well, I'll just wait for Mary's 1st round result and then go from there. But best wishes Mary!!!!

Im so astonished and INCREDIABLLY happy to see mary pierce playing so well again.. that lady hasw gone through so much in her career, injuries, her dad, talks about weight problems.... and i agree.... i think that if she plays with this much intensity, this much flare and power... by june for wimbledone, she will be in the top 20... maybe around 12-18... im also very happy to see her leaner, and not getting intimated by big players or losses...

it seems like a the old mary pierce has been reborn!!!

Mary played very well in her first set against Kim. She just got a bit tight on the key points, which is understandable, given the fact that she hasn’t played that many top players recently. If she remains healthy, she will only get better (but forget the top 10 by the end of the year). It is great to see her back and kicking butts again. And more importantly, she seems to enjoy herself.

I was impressed (again) on Mary's appearence in the last tournaments. She looks fit, plays great, ... she isn't my real favo but respect for what she did and is still doing (what a come-back :worship: )
