Anticipated upset: Home girl Emilie Loit quickly dismantles Elena Likhovtseva (29), 6-3, 6-2.

Elena had a good run in Berlin, stopping Magui Serna on the way to the QF, but Serna avenged that defeat in the 1st round of Rome, and in Strasbourg Likhovtseva retired against Harkleroad in a hopeless position.

They were even in the UE stats, but Loit hit 21 winners, while Elena had to settle for 9. In round 2, Emilie faces a strong challenge in Zuluaga who thwarted Tanasugarn 6-0, 6-2.
