Thanks!
Funny to see Steffi's name is misspelled! :D

Liz Minter played the very first night session match at the Australian Open in 1988 against Navratilova.

Can't see this posted but may be of interest to some of you.

She was no big star though she did defeat Graf en route to a Grand Slam singles title ;)

Elizabeth Minter recalls the loneliness of the tennis professional

Thanks Gee Tee. So glad I didn't miss this piece from Liz. Always wondered what she was up to.

I remember her doing some media during the Fed Cup in 1988 in Melbourne and her saying that she was pursuing a career in journalism. I also remember thinking that (along the lines of her sister) she was a high achiever and that she probably had a life beyond tennis. But her anxieties sound quite difficult for her and probably not well understood at the time. And because Australian was at the tail end of it's success around Liz's time, the Australian establishment at the time probably had little time for those that weren't achieving.

The high expectations of her parents she describes makes me wonder if Liz, by not matching the success of her sister Anne, probably affected her as well. Though she doesn't mention this in the article.

Yeah, I found it interesting when Liz talks of the loneliness of the tour, there is no mention of her sister. I believe their careers were almost entirely contemporaneous, but perhaps all tennis sibling relationships can't be like the Williams or the Maleevas. Actually now that I think of it, I don't think Chris and Jeanne Evert were running in the same circles during their time on the tour (though, I guess Jeanne was usually on the Futures tour most of the time), but I thought Liz and Anne weren't that far apart in their levels that they would be able to travel/practice together.
