Ace number three from Alexandrova as she comes back from 0-30 to 40-30 - and follows that with a double fault! She eventually holds serve when Kristyna hits too long, and leads 3-2.

Now it's Kristyna's turn to get a net-cord winner, making it 15-40. Alexandrova's serve is OK, the return is better, and Alexandrova goes wide on her backhand to give away the break. Kristyna leads 4-3.

Alexandrova has to stretch too far to reach a backhand, and can only put it into the net for 40-30, but forces Kristyna to do the same on the next point for deuce. Ace number four is followed by a backhand going just long from Kristyna for deuce number two. Kristyna hits into the net to give away a break point and set point, then puts the last shot of the next point into the net as well. Rather surprisingly, it's one set all after exactly an hour. Kristyna's first serve percentage has dropped way down, to 42%.

Now for a match tie-break.

They trade mini-breaks to start, before Kristyna is forced to hit a backhand into the net on the last point before the change of ends. 4-2 Alexandrova.

Another wonderful backhand drop-shot from Kristyna before Alexandrova hits long on her own serve to restore equality. She loses her second point as well to a backhand volley from Kristyna. A wonderful cross-court backhand from Kristyna is followed by a huge serve which Alexandrova can only parry, but the latter forces Kristyna to hit her return of serve into the net. 7-5 Kristyna as they change ends for the second time.

Kristyna nets the first point after the changeover, but follows that with ace number five. She loses the next point, but cancels out that mini-break with another net-cord which topples over for match point, and Alexandrova blasts long to give away the match. The final score was 6-0, 4-6, [10-7], in an hour and 12 minutes.

Kristyna Pliskova v Katerina Siniakova - Pliskova serves first; blows an easy winner to give away deuce, then serves consecutive double faults to lose the first game. Siniakova holds to lead 2-0 despite an awesome return down the near sideline by Pliskova.

Siniakova has a comfortable hold, but Pliskova serves double fault number three on the way to 15-40. Ace number five brings it back to deuce. Number six gives her the advantage, and a beautiful volley off Siniakova's return of her drop shot gives her the game. 3-2 Siniakova.

Beautiful cross-court forehand winner from Pliskova to start, but a lovely drop shot from Siniakova takes her to 40-30, and Pliskova dumps a backhand into the net to give away the game. 4-2 Siniakova.

Amazing backhand drop shot from Pliskova - bounces quite high, but Siniakova was metres behind the baseline and can't quite get to it. Pliskova gives away deuce, but two errors from Siniakova allow her to hold serve. 4-3 Siniakova.

Pliskova smacks her racquet into the court after an unforced error over the baseline, but then hits two wonderful cross-court forehands with the replacement. Siniakova gives away the deuce with an unforced error, but errors from Pliskova eventually give away the game. 5-3 Siniakova.

Pliskova gives away set point at 30-40 with a backhand just over the baseline, but Siniakova's last shot of the next point goes wide. Errors from the younger player allow Pliskova to hold serve. 5-4 Siniakova.

I always wonder if Siniakova was a cricketer in a past life. Her unique serve reminds me so much of the great Jeff Thomson's bowling action!

A fabulous forehand winner from Pliskova, followed by a lucky net cord, give her break points at 15-40, and she capitalises with a huge forehand that Siniakova can't do anything with. 5-5.
